I'm just curious how many different ships our loved ones are on in Hawaii.

My son is stationed at NCTAMS PAC in Wahiawa, I don't think he is attached to a ship.... He has mandatory shore duty until June, due to healing from surgery last spring. Nicely, our neighbor ( 11 houses up the street) in the army is stationed 20 minutes away and another best buddy recently completed C school and will be in Pearl Harbor starting next week. He likes HI but does not like his job.He took it until he can heal and reapply back to his original rate. Unfortunately, the Navy now says no one in IT can ask to cross rate or cross train or request orders to leave the assignment early. it is the only reason he took this rate. I"m impressed with the Sailors- he hasn't spend a holiday alone and seems to have many people to "hang around" with when he is off work.

My daughter lived in the barracks at NCTAMS for the first year she was in Hawaii. She's also an IT but she doesn't work at NCTAMS nor is she attached to a ship. Does your son live on base or have an apt? Dawn's daughter is also works at NCTAMS but I'm pretty sure she has an apt in the same area where my daughter lives. What rate was your son originally?

He is moving from the barracks to a 3 bed house with two other young men. He says the cooking facilities are terrible- cannot cook healthy food, just use a microwave. He was in SWCC ( special forces, in San Diego with the SEALS) He has a gf now,Sara, who is an IT at the same base and lives in the barracks( I think??.... sons are harder to get info from than daughters are!) He likes to be active- snorkle, surf, go to beach, go to historic sites, work out, ... does not want to just play video games after 12 hours of watching computer screens for work. He has a black belt and was a TKO instructor, but is afraid to join a dojo to work out since the commanders seem to be prejudiced against martial arts. ( even though the navy has a TKO team....) The 12 hours days alternating with 12 hour nights are getting to him. It is so unhealthy- I have a hard time understanding why the command does not change it-many underexercise, overeat and over caffeinate to stay awake, then take OTC meds to try to get to sleep. Many of the ITs are on special plans due to overweight and being out of shape..... As the mom, I usually hear from him when it was a very rough day. and when he is driving around in his car.
