I am quite sure that all of Hawaii has it's good and bad, every place does, like I said, I have not heard him complain not one bit!! I think he just had not gotten out that much to see all the beauty there is to see there on the island!!!!

Likely it is a case of "The Grass is Always Greener" syndrome. Everyone stationed at Pearl Harbor claims Kailua (near K-Bay) is so much nicer. Sailors at K-Bay want to live in Waikiki. The facilities are definitely nicer on the southern bases (Pearl Harbor and Hickam) while the beaches and hiking trails are nicer on the northern side.

Oh certain parts of the island are much nicer than others. There's a really nice park w/ a beach near Kaneohe Bay. You really need a car to get around the island but it's good that they have a shuttle. I'm not sure how the bus service is on that part of the island. Hopefully you'll be able to visit soon.......you won't want to come back. Ashley's landlord was trying to talk me into staying there but it's to expensive there.

Yes Pat, Joseph is at Kaneohe Bay. He acted like it was not very nice at all compared to Pearl Harbor, he said that was where all the "Big Wigs" are! LOL..But he really seemed to enjoy his outing to Pearl Harbor, I do not think he has got off base much since he has been there, but he had to go for his new uniforms and said he also has another INDOC to go to after becoming Petty Officer, said he hadn;t really needed the uniform until now. He said they had a shuttle over to Pearl Harbor, now that he has found that out, maybe he will make more trips over there. I really have not heard him complian about where he is, just think he had not really seen other parts of the island and did not realize some parts are nicer than others. He talked about getting to see some ships and stuff too.

Serena, where is Joseph? Kaneohe Bay? It's not that bad over there. He should go to the base where both Ashley & Dawn's daughter were at. It's in Wahiawa and the area is not nice!!! The area near Pearl Harbor is nice and so is the base. The NEX mall where Joseph probably went for his uniform is huge.

Pat, I have since talked to my son, and he said heck no, mom, they can't go to the beach when the waves are that high, don't want any Sailors going out there and getting killed, dangerous!!! Like I said, I had no idea!! lol...Yeah, I thought it might be a good idea to wait untill my son and his wife get thier own place, heck, I will sleep on the couch if it will save me some money!!! LOL
Joseph also took his first trip to Pearl Hardor Saturday, to get his new uniform, and said it is alot nicer over there than it is on his side of the island where the Marine base is located...

Hello everyone just wanted to say thanks again for your thoughts and prayers on the death of my mother. My son was able to come home which I am so greatful to his command for allowing him. He is now on the way back to Pearl Harbor, Hi. It wasn't easy saying goodbye again but I am very happy to have had this short time with him. It snow yesterday here in New York so now he'll be on that beautiful warm island......he just called landed in Los Angeles...3 hour layover then Hawaii :):):):)

Does anyone have a son on the USS Jacksonville? My son is currently on the Los Angeles, but is assigned to the Jacksonville once the Los Angeles is decommissioned early 2010.

I like the beach at Wiamea Bay. We were going to go there when I was I went to visit Ashley but the parking lot was full. It is suppose to be the largest most dangerous surf in the world in the winter & here I thought Sandy Beach held that title:-)
