Looks like I might have to spend the weekend with Brenda in East Texas, even though, I'm hoping the sewing center I go to on Monday will be able to help so that I can get the pillowcase sewn. I have everything else for the box I'm sending, including socks, peanut butter, cookies, crackers....Thanks for giving me his name, Sue.

Joni, I feel like that about kitchen designs and womens' bathrooms in a public place. haha.
I think you have to put the thread thru the silver ring. I have that spiral ring too Dori, but this looks different.
I would love to come next summer. I have never been to Maine.

I was able to get the thread through the ring by going down into the ring, but I think that's going the wrong way. There doesn't seem to be a slit opening. I'm hoping to get to a sewing place on Monday. I was just too busy this past week to go. Hiopefully, they can take the time to explain to me about the internal bobbin and this ring thing. I think there's a lot of sexisn involved in sewing. If men sewed it would not be this complicated!

Sue, just let me know when you are coming. I'll have the machine cleaned and oiled ... hasn't been used in about 30 years. It is all mechanical so I am sure it will work. I learned to sew on my Mom's old GE but in 8th grade I took home ec. and we had a sewing project. Half the machines were treadle machines. They will really hum when you get going. In some ways I rather enjoyed it but I would miss the zig-zag and ability to back up.

DC, I was looking for a space in the ring I could just slip it in. Good to know that's what you do, so I'll try again. Thanks!

Joni, With my machines, the only time I actually had to put the thread through something was when I threaded the needle. The rest had an opening somewhere so you could "loop" the thread into it. I have a "silver ring" to the right of my needle that the thread must go through before it goes through the needle. If it comes out, the tension is all off. If I look at it carefully, it is really not a ring but sort of a spiral. I can kind of hood the thread into the spiral.

I realize this is totally unclear in explanation. Point is look for an opening so you do not have to actually put the thread through.

I'm having trouble threading this machine. The picture's kind of blurred - it's hard taking a picture of an area so small, but the directions say to thread the guide which is just above and to the right of the needle. Do they really mean to pull the thread through that silver ring?

I've been trying to bring it through that ring all day and it's almost like my hands are too big.

I put the label on the inside of the pc just under the hem. I love Dori's note, but I usually pack several boxes at a tme and it was so much printing. at the end of the year, just for fun (I should've been an accountant, but find that work boring on a regular basis) I am going to go thru the mailings and figure out how many I mailed.

I'd rahter make new too. good idea on 2 bowls. frosting is made, just letting it cool. time to chop the celery for the celery casserole. cookie exchange is at 1 pm, across the street.

I am so impressed Proud mama by your hubby. Mine does tote the boxes for me though even on our anniversary and his birthday. Sometimes I have 4-6 large ones. going.

I'm going to try your method of folding next Doir. I'd love to sew on that treadle machine. I made a dress when I was 17 on my grandma's. I am hoping that my aunt will leave it to me when she passes. off to chop.
