She leaves Dec. 30th. from N.C. headed back to Bilox and then leaving there Jan. 1st headed to Japan. She is home on a 20 day leave.

Carolina, Verizon phones will not work in Japan. There is a company in Japan called Softbank that you can get a phone from. You do have to get a two year contract but the service is about $60.00 a month and includes free calls to US during certain times. My daughter has it and we both love it. I'm on the phone with her now.

Carolina Tarheel, It is definitely best she get her own phone/plan there at the NEX. To have a car they have to hold a certain rank, I think at least E4 or E5. The train will take them pretty much anywhere they want to go and the station is nearby - an easy walk. SKYPE is very popular, and so are VOIP services including Magic Jack once she gets a broadband internet connection and a router in her barracks.

Check out the Japan Moms discussions - there is a good one with lots of info on communications. You'll also want to check out and bookmark the base web site as it has TONS of updated information on the goings on there, as well as information on TV and internet services. When does she leave?

For the Moms that have sailors in Yokosuka, I need some advice. Our daughter is headed there for 3 years.We have Verizon. is it better to get a phone plan of her own their? I also heard about SKYPE? Do they have their own car there?

I forgot to pass on my Christmas Jam.
12 oz cranberries and 1 1/2 cups water, cooked.
6 cups sugar
1/4 cup lime juice
1/4 cup triple sec
1/2 cup vodka
Follow your pectin directions (I use CERTO)
Enjoy for breakfast and nap in the afternoon. LOL
T-Lynn I like the breakfast for dinner. Do you want some jam? We are getting a foot of snow today, maybe I'll do the same.

Val, your son's behavior reminds me of my son's behavior right before he left for BC. He was such a jerk I couldn't wait to see his backside, you know? I think it's a defense mechanism they use to shield the fact that they're sad to be leaving. I hope today is a better day. When does he leave to go back?

Tree decorations...this year my 13 year old came out of gaming mode and joined me while White Christmas played on the TV. It was a very nice - he asked about ornaments and told me which one was his favorite. And even though I know he's heard about all their origins umteen times, he still listened with interest. I know he is having a hard time this Christmas too, missing both his brothers. I made sure we hung each of their picture ornaments front and center so they're all together, at least symbolically...

One of my sisters is trying to get back home (Ohio) from her home (London) right now. Not looking good. Her flight is way delayed due to storms. She was supposed to land in Cleveland this evening and now it might be Monday until she gets there. She's camping out at Heathrow until something can get her out of there. Ah...holiday stress. :-/

Good Morning :)
Blondie - in simple words - ditto to all those emotiones you mentioned. My oldest is now live on air with the radio station - a Christmas event. When he gets back - he said he will pack - waiting for that one. I mentioned to my hubby for him to have a father son moment and PACK! Then I'll be in teh kitchen and do a Mommy moment - cook. We are having a big breakdfast for dinner - since he will have to be on the road to the airport very early. This way too Mom is more active and she can be up for the dinner /breakfast. Promise , I'll share all the funnies that happen trying to get him out the door. Hey , Blondie - you still did not answer my question - your daughter single ?- my sailor is a great catch :). Val - oh one of those " Mom, it's all your fault " moments.. Yes, had those too. I think he will come around soon - Alex had one of those times - right after he got to Japan. I got it over the phone. I just stated: " I just followed all the things you listed you wanted done - and you forgot to pencil me in." He later called to say he was sorry. Your son appears to have a a big heart like you - trying to be there for everyone, becasue he hears their needs to be with him. Let's face it Moms - and I bet NDM too - don't we all back off of our need to make things easier for our kids? Val, is there any speical place that only you and he would go or somethign speical that only you two would do? Ask him to pencil you in his- All the people I HAVE to be with on my Leave List" It helps to have a cup of hot chocolate and a plate of chocolate chip cookies in front of him when staying this. Well, that 's how it works here :) Need to finish laundry. talk later - Hugs TLynn
