There is more than one train line going to Yokosuka. As Kat says, the JR line has different cars, and you can pay more and have a little more room. You will end up at Yokosuka station, which is not downtown, but still a short cab ride (or long walk). Depart from Tokyo station.

The Keikyu line is faster and stops at Yokosuka-Chuo (downtown Yokosuka), but you have to watch and make sure you're on the express car (green sign on the train cars). There are overhead racks, but not worth the hassle to get things up there. These can get very, very crowded. Depart from Shinagawa station.

Lynda the trains have different cars and you can pay a little more and ride in the car with overhead space for luggage.

Stacy...my son works in the Atsugi health center as an Optometry Tech. There are only two of them in that office.

Good morning everyone. 12 more days and I'll be on a plane headed for Japan. I am so anxious to see my baby girl. She has been gone for 6 months and it seems like eternity. We e-mail and she calls as often as she can but I so miss her beautiful smile and getting those hugs. I don't know if I will be able to leave Japan when it comes time. Oh well don't go there yet.

Anita 647, please share the places you visit and sites you see while you are there. Also how are you getting around and are you having trouble with getting your luggage from place to place. I keep hearing there is not much room on the trains for luggage. We are going to take a shuttle bus from the airport to our first hotel, but then we have to get to Yokosuka and then later on back to the airport. I'm getting a little nervous.

Have a great day everyone. Happy Veterans Day to all our Veterans. Thank you and God Bless You.

Enjoy Anita. I agree that they are the best foreign hosts.

Stacy, my son is a hospital corpsman stationed at Atsugi as well. If your son has gotten a shot he's probably met my son. I guarantee that wasn't pleasant! LOL He'll be there for another year, but most importantly...he'll be home on leave in 9 days!! :-D

I really enjoyed reading about your son's job and how he loves it. I confess to being a bit of a weather junkie myself...

For anyone having a sailor aboard the Patriot (MCM 7), please visit my page to view the latest pictures from my son. Maybe you will recognize a sailor and share their photo with family members.
Hope everyone is great!

Thank you for the welcome, everyone.

Claudia: Yes, he is excited to be an AG. He has been a 'weather boy' since the age of 5, when he discovered The Weather Channel. Once he found that channel, the cartoons went out the window. lol. He was one of only 4 AG's that remained on base during Typhoon Melor, having to go outside every hour to take measurements. He sent me a text at one point to tell me that he had been hit by a wind gust of 95mph... I asked him if he had found a light pole to grab (family joke), and he said no, but that the wind helped him find the building. HA.

He forecasted a tornado when he was still in Biloxi at A-school, giving area residents about an 8 minute warning. He was so excited to sound his very first tornado siren that he recorded it on his phone and sent it to me. ~giggles~

Anyway, he has said numerous times in just the past couple of months that he can't believe that he is finally realizing and living his dream.

Mark: You'll have to send me a private message with your son's last name, and I'll ask my son to keep an eye out for him!

Anita647: Glad to hear you're having a good time in Japan. I'm planning my first ever trip to Japan next year in the fall. We are a coaster-loving family, so I told my son, when he asked what time of the year I might come, that I didn't want to go during a typhoon, and any nearby roller coasters had to be open. So he gave me a couple of options, and I picked one.

I am now in the process of getting a passport, and budgeting for the trip- it will take an entire year to do that! Although I am a little nervous about going, I'm also looking forward to seeing Joshua!

I am enjoying my visit to Japan. I was pleased to see the varietry and depth of the activities and places our sailors have available to them. It is hard for them to be so far from family but they develop deep friendships and have the best foreign hosts.
