Boot Camp over the holidays was rough. They weren't allowed to call on Christmas day and that broke my heart!!
The USO's are so wonderful. We went into the one at O'hare in Chicago with our son and I was amazed at the hospitatility. They had food and TV and computers.
Also don't forget you can request a pass to go to the gate with your Sailor!!

In boot camp over the holidays. That seems tough. At least we can hope for a phone call on the holidays.

Sandy, you're a Kleenex Klub member by default, simply by being here! lol Enjoy your son today and tomorrow, take lots of pictures and try to live in the moment. He will be very busy for a few days when he gets there, so don't fret too much if you don't get a call right away, but be assured that he will call you as soon as he can! We are so lucky to have all this wonderful technology at our fingertips now, unlike the many generations before us. Also, check to see if there is a USO at any of the airports he'll be traveling through. They are an AMAZING organization and will take good care of your sailor during any layover he may have. The stories I could tell about what they've done for my son...but then we'd all need Kleenex. haha! Hang in there and keep us posted. We're all here for you.

I know I'm a "new-be", but can I join the kleenex club? I don't know what would make me eligible, but I was hoping since I am a qualified soppy, blubbering, emotional mess these days I was hoping you'd take me in.

Ryan comes home this afternoon, the whole family is playing hookie tomorrow and we say our goodbyes Saturday :(

Good Morning :), Anita - how perfect. A Club purse. What genius and so claasy too. It would be wearable with other out fits. But you need to come up with somthing for the Dads - sorry , I am just not into that European Man Purse look. And fellow Moms - PLEASE - PLEASE if you can get a picture of that first hug - get it and share it. That would have meaning to each of us here :). Donna - I think you son needs to look into those orders. If he leaves in January - there is sometimes a lot to do. Keep us posted please. Need to rush off - I am baby sitting this morning. Little Ella is coming - she and my mother play games and tell stories - Ells is so good for my mom:). Hugs everyone TLynn PS Jim - please how is the other Navy Dad doing?

You are not alone! I spent most of yesterday crying, hoping that I can be a strong Mom when I say goodbye this weekend. My husband is a middle school teacher & he picked 3 videos to share with his classes regarding Veteran's Day. He said it was all he could do to keep his emotions in check. My 14 year old daughter had the same problem, especially when a teacher asked if there were any students in his class that had a brother or sister in the military. I also have a sophomore son in college about an hour from here.

Ryan comes home today! :) All of us are staying home tomorrow just to have one last day together. See? I'm getting misty eyed just thinking about it!

Its easy for people to say that its only a couple of years and its only Japan. But from my point of view-it's two years and its on the other side of the world!

Thank God for N4M; I feel like I have people just like me who understand what I'm feeling. Yesterday I felt like such an emotional mess, until I found out that there were a lot of other people out there that feel the same way I do.

I'm the winner of the criyng contest, because I thought yesterday of how little time my sailor would have at home on leave and how I would miss him when he was gone. I started to cry and he hasn't even came home yet.

I know nothing about hardcopy orders. It seemed like after my son got through with school, some one said Japan and he was gone. I wish it had taken a long time.

When a sailor is changing assignments, how long before they have to be there should they get thier harcopy with orders? My son was told about 7 months ago that he was going to Japan in Jan. but still has no hardcopy. Others that are changing already got thiers. I seem to be stressing but he says no need in doing that. It won't change anything....lol
