Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

moonblossom - the area code wouldn't have been my son. We're from Colorado. It would be great though if they get to know each other. Our recruiter said to give him a couple days and then call him and he'd give us an address. I wonder if you can do the same. I would hate for you to have to wait 2-3 weeks to send a letter when you could possibly get one out by Monday.

That's so true. I was trying to tell someone that it's hard not having any involvement in what's happening to them. As moms we of course want to comfort and make things better and it's frustrating not being able to do that.

Same thing - I was already in bed when he called. I think the only other thing he added was that he would be sending his stuff home and it would come in a week or two. MEPS is very stressful - isn't it? I've yet to talk to someone who had a smooth trip through there. :-)

I heard from my son about 11:30 last night. He's there with your son moonblossom - maybe it was his phone your son used. :-) I was so glad he took it so we could chat. When we got to the end of the conversation and I knew we wouldn't talk for weeks it was so hard to know what to say. I told him for the millionth time that I love him, I'm proud of him, stay strong and do your best. My thoughts will be with them all day today - they must be exhausted. All part of the plan though, right?

Hello ladies today has been a good day - only a few tears. Ethan's girlfriend is here with their dog and it seems that Kisses is having the same anxiety that we are having. She is not eating very well since E left. She is living in a new place so today when she came home she ate her food. Thank goodness poor thing she loves E so much.

Lizzie T, I just saw your note. My son shipped on the 6th and we got his box that Friday morning and as of yet no form letter. I'm glad to hear that you're doing well, but I'm sure that you have your moments. As much as we moms miss our kids our hearts are tugged by the life changes you young wives are going thru too. Supportive thoughts to you and Karissa (and any other wife I might have missed!) Kathy

Karissa, I sent stamps with my son. My letter from him yesterday was on lined sprial notebook paper so I think he bummed it from somebody because all he kept with him was whatever he could keep in his wallet. I'm sure he'll get a letter to you soon! Josh's mom, David is also staying at GL. He also indicated that the first two days were tough for him. I hope Josh gets to feeling well soon (and hope it doesn't spread thru their ship! lol). Also sending you a mental hug! I'm so thankful to be part of this community, my husband is now even asking me questions about what the other Moms are getting in the mail, etc... As for our recruits futures, my mom has shared that Dad had always felt that his Navy years were the best years of his life (kind of a suprise to me, I had thought my baby years had that honor! tee hee!)

I am putting a stamped envelope in every 3 or 4th envelope, becacuse I really don't expect him to write home very often. I think he'll probably sleep every minute he get free.
