DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in April

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in April...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of April of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Website: http://www.navyformoms.com/group/deppersinbutnotyet

Latest Activity: Jul 21, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

We got David's address and his box today. No sweet note, lucky you, Jake's Mom! Big :)! Just his clothes, DEP book, backpack and shoes. Since he has already been living away from home it's taking us a little longer to feel the separation. It's setting in today as both his dad and I keep wanting to pick up the phone and give him a call. My first letter did help with that. Marilyn, hang in there, just think how jealous the others will feel when Jordan gets a bunch of letters from you! :) At least you can keep writing to us...not the same thing but hey, we're here for you! On another note, I'm thankful his PIR is in June and not the winter. Being a former Arizona girl I'm not crazy about the Chicago area in winter!

arrrrgh! I am so sad and mad! Just tried to call the recruiter on his cell phone and was told that "I didn't see Jordan's address listed this morning, and I'll check again on Monday"! He is out of the office the rest of today. (I started calling the office at 10 am and didn't get an answer, so I'm not sure when this morning he checked!) ANYWAY...I envy those of you who have this information and know where your kids/loved ones are. I am sad that he won't get letters when many of the other's are! It's breaking my heart and I wish there was another way to find out. I have to say I've not been very impressed with his recruiter - he didn't tell us we could be there for the swearing in, he didn't let us know about quite a few things. arrrgh!
I just spoke with my husband and he doesn't get why I'm so upset. He thinks Jordan will understand - but my heart isn't feeling that.

ANYWAY - I just needed to vent a bit and share my sadness.

Rebecca - Jordons Mom

My husband just stopped at the recruiters office today and just called me with Jake's address. He is on Ship 14, Division 196 if I'm reading the address right. Does that sound right? I'm sooooooo glad to finally get his address.

Joshuasmom...I'm glad you got "the call"! Now you know he is actually THERE and getting the process underway. He's now on the actual road to getting this season/stage of his life going. YEAH!! I'm waiting until 10 to call the recruiter for the address. I am VERY excited about being able to actually MAIL his letters to him. It will make me feel more connected - even if I can't hear back from him for a while. HE CAN FEEL THE LOVE FROM THE MAMA!!

Karissa - my oldest son went to Coast Guard BC (we didn't have something like this to "tap into" for support...) but he is married and I know his wife has had to go through some nervous times with him being gone. YOU WILL GET THROUGH IT! :) She is now "making him" get out (touchy subject for me..) but I know that the time he has put in and the growth he has made will benefit him for the rest of his life.
And it's an investment into both of your lives and your future. My husband is also military - and while he had already been in for a while before we met - I've always felt that he was taking on a huge challenge and making a sacrifice for our family and our country. He is an "O-5" (officer) now, but it's been a LONG journey and I've had to be understanding and supportive throughout. You will be A BIG A PART OF HIS SUCCESS! My husband always say that he "couldn't do what he does as well as he does it - if I wasn't standing there beside him doing what I do as well as I do it!" It a team effort. Don't ever doubt that you will be what holds him up and keeps him going in the years ahead. Especially if this is his chosen career. Either way...it will be a wonderful time in your life together.

Got my kid in a box yesterday.......it was waiting for me on the front porch when I got home from work. My husband works 2nd shift so it arrived after he left for work - cried like a bady when I opened it...........Jake had made a pre-written note and must have slipped it in his wallet before he left and it was in his shoe with his cell phone........all it said is "I Love You Mom". Why is it that we don't have a clue just how sweet and wonderful our boys are until they are gone........I mean I knew Jake is a great kid, funny, sweet and larger than life but never realized just how great he is.........called the recruiting office to see if they had his address but of course no one answered and didn't return my call. My husband is going to stop in there before work today seeing he works across the street from them. Hopefully I'll have an address tonight....

So almost one week down and counting.........miss him like crazy but hanging in there......

got my i'm here call last night around 2am...but i got like three calls from him while they were at the airport. they sat at the airport for over sixteen hours waiting to go to the base. they would take them till the buses were full. those are some tired kids!!! there was a girl that left with josh, she was the only girl there among about 60 boys and they made her sit by herself that whole time because they are not allowed to fraternize (i KNOW i miss spelled that) with each other...i thought that was sad..he said he felt bad for her. he said when the co's were not looking he would talk to her. no tears this morning! pouring in the coffee as i type...gonna clean out some closets today...putting up the winter clothes getting out the summer..taking stuff to good will...staying busy keeps the mommy mind from wandering!

Rebecca, sometimes I think that the siblings are what help us, as parents, keep our heads where our feet are!

Rebecca- yeah it will be interesting what gets sent in the box- I gave Paul stamps and he also took a small bible that used to be mine [ prints to small to see it!] but i had him put his 'toiletries' in a backpack since he stayed over nite in a hotel on the 5th. i KNOW his jeans will come back- they were the only 'decent' ones he owned. I'm calling the requiter tomorrow. I'll let you know.

Wallets ~ Many do not want the extra baggage of a wallet. My son did not want his until PIR weekend. Most SRs only take their driver's license and social security card. My son put his stamps and calling card in his address book. Remember extra allowable valuables (cash, watch, etc.) are put in their "Valuable Rickie Sock" and hang it from their belt until they get their locks. : ) ~ kk

Address ~ The Recruiter can usually get the address from the database within 48 - 72 hours of their arrival date at GL RTC.
