Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Oh good - I'm glad you were able to spend some more time with him. Tell me what the swearing in was like. It's not something I'm going to be able to witness and I'm very curious about it. Was he upset about missing commencement this spring? I'm not sure how many December grads go back to walk with their class.

We went to Fayetteville Monday morning to say goodbye to David then found out that we had misunderstood about when he was leaving MEPS. As the shuttle was taking him to Little Rock we rushed home to Tulsa line up care for our pets then headed to Little Rock to have dinner with David. I'm so thankful to all of you for the insights to ask the questions that I did Monday morning so that we could be there with him. Since he was a December grad from UofArk he'll miss his commencement this spring. At least we were together for the swearing in. We were impressed with the group of recruits that we saw yesterday. If they are any example of the other recruits that shipped out yesterday you should all be proud of your young people. We have all done well to this point and they will be there for eachother over the next few weeks.

It really started to hit me last week. He was a DEP in October so it seemed like April was so far away but I'm amazed at how quickly it has come. He has been sticking pretty close to home this past week and I can't help but think he's trying to soak in the last of family before he leaves. We're having a party for him this weekend and I'm hoping to hold it together through that. I'm really getting anxious about taking him to the recruiter so he can leave. I'm sure I'm going to be a mess and I don't know if that is good for him to see or not.

Kelly, If your like me I cried the whole month before Jake left and he's now only been in GL since Monday and I'm already crying less and less. I just keep looking ahead to graduation and when I see him again. Good luck to your son as he prepares for his new adventure.......

I'm so glad this group is here. I didn't realize it until I saw Jordansmom's comment on another group I was visiting. My son leaves a week from today. It sounds like we're all going through the same emotions and there really is a lot of comfort in knowing that. Ironically the girl I share office space with has a son leaving for the Marines two days before my son. We've already warned the boss that there will probably be a lot of tears in our office that week. :-) I hope to get to know some of you better and perhaps get the chance to meet when we're in GL.

Joshua's Mom -
I wanted to let you know that you're not alone. It's silly things that have set me off too...seeing Jordan's coat on the back of the sofa...seeing the trash can sitting by the road (even typing this is making me tear up.) the smallest things are hurting my heart - but since this is my day 2 and I got my "phone call" last night, I am BETTER. I figure each day will improve, and when I get the address and can send him a letter...it will be even better. AND when I get a letter FROM him or a phone call...that will be the almost the BEST. Total best is when he is done with Basic, done with A school and finished with C school. I guess it's all a process, and we are growing along with our kids.

I am hoping to be like Jakes Mom and not cry at all tomorrow.

blessings and prayers, fellow Navy Moms.

It will get better - honest. I broke down yesterday when I went into his very clean room and my husband cried a bit when I said I was going to do laundry yesterday afternoon (usually jake did laundry). It seems to be the craziest things that will brings tears to my eyes. But today - day 3 I haven't cried once yet......

josh left yesterday for meps. his plane leaves in a few hours for gl. we weren't able to go to the airport with him, so yesterday at the r. station we said our goodbyes. we will get our i'm here call sometime tonight. i'm trying really hard today to function...not really working. i broke down at the grocery store when i saw the oreos were on sale...they are his favorite. people probably thought i was insane lol. then on the way home, i'm so used to having to drive really slow down our long and winding driveway because he is usually riding his go cart or one of the 4 wheelers...he wasn't. broke down again. this is gonna get better....right? maybe tomorrow.

Thank you Jessica, I did, well...we left him last night at the hotel, it was very hard, my husband was trying to make it today for his last swearing but did not make it they did it early, now I’m just gonna hold my phone next to me so I won’t miss his phone call, is any body from this group from Santa Clarita, CA?, I'll start writing my letter today though, recruit said to call him in a week to get his mailing address, God bless all the kids that are leaving today, we are very proud of them!

Your totally right! When I got my call at first my brain froze then it kicked into high gear and all the encouragement I could think of came out. Their going to need it so much in the next 8-1/2 weeks......hang in there Moms. Each day does get a little easier but we will still feel that hole in our lives our kids made when they left...
