Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Ladies hang in there hopefully we will get a real letter soon. I have a friend who went through this in 2008 and she said that it took almost two weeks before she got a letter from her son. My son left on the 6th.

My son left Jan.6 for boot camp . When will you know if he has the whole weekend or is Grab-n- go? His recruiter was telling me something about the navy lodge, I was wondering about it and who can stay in them,( just parents, friends, how many can stay?)

bobdot197 ~ Grad-N-Go means they pack their sea bag after PIR and possibly get to spend a couple of hours with you before they head to the airport. The family members can follow them to the airport and hang out with them until they catch their plane out to their "A" School location. Unfortunately, they are not aware of their status until they are given their orders - which could change. Some Sailors leave right after PIR, some leave the following day, some leave the following week. I have not heard of an "8 hour release in BC." Maybe someone else can expand on that.

In addition, some Sailors ship out to their "A" School locations via a military charter, via a commercial plane, or just walk to it.

When making your travel plans, check with your motel/hotel about cancellation policies. i.e. the Navy Lodge is very accommodating (cancel by 6:00 PM for the night you are canceling). They are aware the new Sailors can have order changes, and some families do not want to remain in Chicago.

Veroshky ~ If he is Grad-N-Go, he will know this 10 to 14 days before PIR. Sometimes it changes a day or 2 before. You always have to be prepared. Most people book their flights with tickets that can be converted OR have less of a penalty. You have to calculate. ~ kk

hey question for everyone! im flying to chicago for my husband graduation but, am I going to be able to see him during the weekend or its just that one day? I need to know so i can buy the tickets and return on sunday. THANK YOU !! =)

Navyblueeyes ~ kayak.com is where I start, but I usually end on on the carriers' websites to find even a better deal. We drove to Chicago as our fare was excessive for the three (3) of us. We were also able to spend more time with our Sailor on Sunday. But we are only a 6 hours drive to GL RTC. ~ kk

monica q ~ The SRs are issued all of their clothing items, which includes their swimwear. Someone correct me here if it is different for the females. But my son had all clothing items and gear issued. I was trying to find my son's receipt from the NEX to see if he bought goggles, but was not able to locate it. Since they do not take anything with them, it would be Navy issued. And if they buy from the NEX, they are limited to certain items they can purchase and take back to their compartment. Did this help?
Also, I was so worried about hugging my son at PIR in the grad hall. LOL He said, "Mom! I can hug you! I just can't makeout with anyone." In the grad hall there were lots of hugs. But I did not notice any kissing going on. The Sailors are given strict rules of conduct. They really only relax in the hotel/motel rooms. They keep their military bearing throughout the entire PIR weekend. : ) ~ kk

Did any of the N4M members see the 2/26/2010 PIR group?
