While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Arriving at Boot Camp November 2017
Hi - my son leaves for boot camp on 11/20/17. He wanted to leave right after he enlisted, but this is the date he was given. It's good in a way as he has more time to prepare, but he really just wants to get started. If anyone else has a loved one leaving for boot camp this November, please feel free to respond. It would be nice to go through this process together!

My husband is leaving on the 21st. He also is seeing this as time to prepare, but is very anxious to get started as well.

Yes, originally they told him he would probably leave within a week of taking his oath, so he was already saying his good-byes to friends and family. But I understand things change, have to be flexible. My son is going to school right out of boot camp in Great Lakes, is your husband as well?

Oh he knows exactly how your son feels. He was originally supposed to leave last week. We had a surprise going away party for him and everything. Haha. But flexibility is key!And yes his A school with be in Great Lakes also. Maybe they'll have the same PIR date, since they're both leaving the same week.

Oh no,, that's funny! Well, I guess he'll get two going-away parties! I am planning a pre-Thanksgiving / going-away party the weekend before he leaves since it's so close to Thanksgiving. Not sure how I will decorate for that...Yes, maybe they will have the same PIR date. My son's job will be Quartermaster so I believe he will be at school for 9 weeks. I am not sure when we find out where he goes after that, do you know?

Hi, Summer_Girl!
My son leaves for BT on November 2nd. He reports to his recruiting office the day before so we will be going to his swearing in ceremony on the morning of November 2nd before he heads out.
So, today is 111 days until 11/1 when he goes.
It seems like a long time from now, but we have so much to do before he leaves.

HI BigMosMom - it does seem like a long time, but like you said, there is so much to do. My son has started studying his Navy book, trying to memorize the Sailor's creed, ships and aircraft, etc. There is so much for them to learn before they get to BC, but at least they have some time to prepare. He has been running and doing a LOT of sit-ups and push-ups too. I have really never seen him so motivated for anything; it makes me feel better to see him trying so hard. He already seems to be a little more grown-up since he enlisted. How are you and your son getting ready for this big change?

We watched the PIR online together this morning and boy was that an inspirational and motivational ceremony for the challenges and rewards ahead for our sons and daughters.
As a family, we are working out together and he writes the Sailor's Creed each morning and then recites it. He is attending his DEP meetings and mentor meetings at his recruiting office. For the DEP meetings, they meet at a local park and engage in sporting activities together for team building. New recruits introduce themselves each week. From our community which is small, we have over 70 recruits in the DEP.
Once we get to 100 days to go, I'm sure the time will just speed by. As a family, we wrote activities that we want to do together on slips of paper and put them in a glass bowl. Each weekend, we pick one and then off we go to do that activity. And we have a barbecue at our house for local friends and family to attend on the first Saturday of the month. At these gatherings, those who attend bring a card or letter in an envelope with a stamp. So throughout Basic Training, we will address them all and divide them up to mail out weekly. It gives me something to do that will be encouraging to my son.
Also, he is getting calls of encouragement from friends and family already. SO EXCITED for our children as they prepare for a new endeavor in their lives.
I'm off to get ready for work so we will talk soon! Everyone out there, we're in this together!

My son leaves on November 6th. We are having a going away party as well and asking friends and family to write notes of encouragement that I will mail to him. I'm also doing a pre-thanksgiving dinner before he leaves. Nice to know of others leaving around the same time. Let's stay in touch!

My daughter is leaving on the 21st. She's ready, I'm not.
Both of my kids are leaving this year, son to college and daughter to Navy. I don't feel old enough to be an "empty nester." :) -
