Well....he flew out at 4:30 today. It was such a whirlwind and my head is still spinning!!! He didn't swear in until 3:00 and he left MEPS at 3:40. It was kind of like ripping off a bandaid quickly so that it wouldn't hurt. There wasn't time for any long good byes or crying. I'm sure that will come tonight when I am sitting watching TV. He did just call me when the plane landed at O'Hare. He said he will call me again when he's "supposed" to from GL. I am so very proud of my son!!!

A Rainforest Cafe? I can't wait; I love the one at Disney World.

Sherry -- Gurnee is the town where most sailors and their families go after PIR. It's only about 10 minutes away and has a mile-long mall (from one end to the other) and restaurants, like Friday's, Uno's, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Chipotle, Giordanno's, Rainforest Cafe, Ruby Tuesday, etc.

I just got my husband's ship and division number: Ship 13, Division 052. Anyone else with that same division? His recruiter didn't have the PIR date yet. :(

Well I booked our room at the Navy Lodge today. I certainly would prefer a nicer hotel/indoor pool/restaurant type thing but for convenience we just chose it.
What is close to the base as far as nice restaurants or what city would we head to for those things.

Sherry -- I used to live right down the street from Great Lakes. The best towns to look for hotels are North Chicago (where the base is located),
Waukegan, even Gurnee or Libertyville. I used to live directly across from Six Flags in Gurnee, which is right down the street from the mall and restaurants that most of the recruits go after PIR. There are a few hotels right there, which may make dinner time and just having something to do a little easier. A few of them include Comfort Inn, Best Western, Holiday Inn (where I got married), Country Inn & Suites, La Quinta and Vista Hotel and Conference Center. If you aren't planning on going out to dinner with your new sailor or doing any shopping, then you may want to look into either the Days Inn or Knights Inn in North Chicago. I also heard there is a nice Marriott (I think) in Waukegan and a Navy Lodge (or something like that) near base. This site may help: http://www.mwrtravelplus.com/.

Also, I was told that no presents for Christmas, besides what you can fit into a normal sized envelope (i.e. NEX gift cards, gift cards to the restaurants at Ricky Heaven's). However, another mom said she thought you could send edible packages. So, I'm not sure what the true policy is. Luckily for me, I plan to be in Chicagoland for Christmas, so am hoping to "adopt" my husband for the day! :)

Well I received her address and have already sent her 5 letter/cards. I am anxious to get her first 'real' letter. She did send me a seperate note (seperate from the form letter) and just simply stated "Boot Camp sucks". I thought to myself 'duh'!!! A simple smile across my face surprised even me. I didn't cry...matter of fact I feel calm. I know all the prayers that are being sent her way are being answered. I just feel it. Don't get me wrong I miss her but I know she is really excited to be a part of the Navy and knows sometimes the storm comes before the sun.
I know I need to start thinking about booking a room but don't know anything about the area. I know the Navy included some info but I'm still trying to find out more about what's around. Anyone know a site/area on here that offers more info on this topic.
Also, has anyone heard if we can send them 'anything' at Christmastime?
