Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of November (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have November ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in November, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hi All,

My son leaves Nov 16th. I am having a party for him the weekend before he leaves. It will be a Thanksgiving/Birthday theme because he will also be away for his 18th bday. It has been very emotional for me too but it makes me happy to know that he is making positve decisions for his future.

Some of my ideas/plans for the party:

1.postcards for all to fill out so I can mail some at a time.

2. a box for everyone to drop in a note that starts off as "I will miss Stephen the most because.........

3. throw away camera for all to use that night

4. a blow up sketch of him will hang on the wall so the little ones can play pin the tattoo on the sailor

5. Blue and gold decorations with a cake that has the Navy logo

6. A singing telegram!!! A Vargas type of all classic pin up in a Navy hat is coming to sing him a song... LOL. Have not decided what the song will be but still working on that

Great idea, NMNavyMom on the note cards. When my other son went to boot, he looked so forward to getting mail from everyone. Those of you who have sons going into the Nuke program, let's try to keep in touch if our sons land in different divisions because we live in Charleston, SC, which is where they will go to school after boot. We'd love to be a host family for them.

Awesome, CodesMom! We have a couple of guys from this recruiting office going nuke, too. That's great...I hope he gets subs, too! Who knows, my son could be preparing his meals one day!!!
I agree, the tree might be an issue for a 4 yr. old! Enjoy your Thanksgiving feast and time with your sailor! Look forward to chatting again soon:)

Ellen B - we did the same thing. Had the party early (Labor Day) and are planning a big Thanksgiving dinner the weekend before he leaves. If I thought I could get away with it I would put up the Christmas Tree and toast the new year with him too! (but I think that would be a little to confusing for my 4 year old and Santa would have to come twice :o) We don't know his rate yet. He is going Nuke and they don't get their rate until boot camp, but he is hoping to be on a sub too!

We are ALL feeling the same things, but we are here for each other always! My son, Corey, leaves 15 Nov 2010, a whole month earlier than his original date, so I've been busy putting together a special Thanksgiving dinner before he leaves. We already had a party for him on July 4th, with friends & family, just in case he got the "call" sooner than Dec. He was excited to get the job he really wanted-CS, but he also volunteered for sub duty. This surprised me a bit, but we will see how it all works out. He, also, is bored out of his mind and wanted "out of here" months ago!
In the meantime, I'm spending every moment possible with him until he leaves, making sure he has everything he needs, ready. He's my "baby", also, so I wholeheartedly know how you're feeling, MNNavyMom!!
My eldest son is leaving next May after finishing Medical School. The Navy has already Commissioned him as an Ensign. I really wept at that ceremony! After Officer training in Rhode Island, he begins his Residency as a Navy Lieutenant. He will find out where he will be stationed in November-WOW, big month for us! A million emotions all at the same time!!

My son leaves for Great Lakes on November 30. Does anyone have any good ideas for his going away party? I am planning on having blank note cards where his friends can write him messages and I will mail them to him during boot camp. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. My son has been a DEPPER since February. He is so ready to leave. All his friends are gone to college and he's bored at home. Me on the other hand ... I'm not ready for him to go since he's my baby but I'm also excited for him to start a new chapter in his life.

My son leaves for boot on Nov. 17th. He's been a depper since March... finally down to less then 30 days... boy did that go fast! He is boxing up his room as I write this. Very exciting and sad times... but could not be more PROUD of my sons choice and the unfailing determination he has shown over the last few months. Let the journey begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in Palmdale, CA. That's what I fear the most, is that he will have to leave for Pensacola right after PIR. I'm thinking the Navy has him already planned out since they called him up early. Never can tell. I'm kinda used to not knowing what the next step is, I grew up as a Navy Brat....my Dad was a Master Chief. We moved alot! God willing, I'll be at PIR.
Comment by Tamme on October 18, 2010 at 12:29pm
The DVD of PIR is nice but it shows the "whole" graduation. I am so sorry I didn't take our own video camera because our son was a flag carrier for his division and since he was so far down to the end of the hall, the DVD doesn't pick him up. It was nice to watch the one we bought after though to be able to relax and enjoy listening to the music and speaches. I was such a nervous wreck and so excited to hug him that I just couldn't take my eyes off of him. If your son is going to Pensacola, there is a good chance Charlie may leave the day of PIR. If you do make it to graduation, they will let you visit with him at the airport as well. Also, you can stay at the Navy Lodge since it is graduation. That hotel is closer and a little less expensive. Where do you live?
