Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of November (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have November ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in November, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Well, Nov. is around the corner. I know we are all anxious about shipout our shipout dates.
My son leaves on Nov. 9. As he is my second, I now know what to expect. My first one has his PIR in two weeks! This is all still freash in my mind, so I will share what I can yo help ease the worries we all feel!
First make sure your DEPPER is studying! This will help with all the tests they take!
Second, take the day off and go to MEPS! Yow never regret it! Get there early. I called and asked when they start with the swearing ins. I was told that my local MEPS starts at nine.I stayed with me son, and took pictures of his swearing in. I stayed until he got on the bus. I felt so sorry for all the recruits without family. Before they load the bus, they are given a chance to say good bye. I waved and cried.
As hard as it is, try NOT to cry in front of your recruit. Try as hard as it may be to be strong. Once the bus drives off, cry your eyes out. Everyone else will!
Let them take their cell phones. That way tyey can call home when they are at the airport waiting and when they get to Great Lakes, they will be able to use it to make the "I'm here" call! Then it will be placed in the box and sent home.
After two to three days, call your recruits recruiter. They can give you the Ship and Division number and the mailing address.
PLEASE do not send cards with souonds, food or colored, sented envelopes. The RDCs will have the division do extra PTs for it!
Any other questions, please feel free to ask.
REMEMEBER: Its ok to cry. In fact I would worry if you don't!

Ladies, I heard from my son in bootcamp this week, and he said he is passing his tests. I'm not sure if it is stuff n the DEP bok or not, he didn't say, but I would encourage your DEPPER to study the book. Also, I am finding out that it is important that they are in shape. They have PT's A LOT!!!! (Physical Training)
Any other hings I hear, I will pass them along. My son has his PIR in Oct. and his brother who is leaving in Nov. will get to see it, so maybe that will be his encouragment to better prepare!

georganna, I found that in the "DEPPERs in, but not" yet site, there is a link to a site that is all about Navy lingo. You might find that the more things change, the more they stay the same. lol
I am new to this, but as time goes by, I have learned a lot!
How many sons do you have in the Navy? My son leaving in Nov. will be my second. His younger brother is in BC now. His PIR is in Oct.
This will be new to me: holidays without my boys! For Thanksgiving, Christams and New Years, they will both be in GL. One in BC and the other in A school. I just wonder if they will be able to spend off time together.

siglinde, I understand. I have now gone longer without talking to my son in BC now. It is hard. I find myself writing him several times a day. My other son leaves in Nov., but he is in Brazil for the second time this summer. Young love. he has a girlfriend there and wants to start the paper work to bring her here before he goes to boot camp. At least there, he has email and I know a number I can call. At BC, they are on Uncle Sam's time.

Laurie, if you are looking for support, you have found it! I have been a DEPPER's mom for a year now. I have learned so much here. If you haven't already, check out the site, DEPPERS in, but not yet. It is the anchor to this one. It has a world of information. My first son left in Aug. and my next one leaves Nov. 9. I don't know if number two will be easier or not. He's in Brazil for the month of Sept. I guess he has to get it all out before the Navy takes him away! lol

Ivonna, my son leaves the same day you do. I just went trough sending my younger son off on Aug. 25. I haven't heard from him, but so far, I guess all is going well. For all ya'll who this is your first time, I hope I can disspell any fears you might have. (No promises) I would suggest that if you want to hear other momns, go read the posts on the site, Boot Camp moms. They can also offer some advise. But as the time gets closer, I hope to help all I can.

Terri, thanks for taking the helm and guiding us as we freak out before our babies leave to start a new life.

Michelle, thanks for doing this. Even though my younger son, Laurence, leaves in Aug., my older son, Richard leaves in Nov. I hope after Laurence leaves and this site starts to become active, I can give some prior knowlegde advice! lol
