Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have October ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

So, klmcarl, I'm guessing that will put us at New Years near Chi town, you think?

Sportsmom, thank you for having daughters that want to serve our country. You have one in the army and another going into the navy. Wow. I am very thankful to have a place here to support navy moms also. As soon as my son enlisted and became a dep I looked for a site and here it was, like a miracle. I am so proud of him and he is also excited to become a sailor. Every day he feels more confident in his PT and is looking forward to BC. He has finally started memorizing the 'General orders of the sentry', etc.. That part has taken a while. I was afraid he would never start that. I have heard it is a good idea to know the history of the navy too. Recently I started reading posts from the 2009 October Bc families and it has been really interesting. They mention what they did at PIR and where to go in Chicago during the winter. They had a 12-18 and 12-30 PIR. Of course, very cold in December. Also the December PIR family started an Alumni group after PIR to keep up with everyone as their child continues their journey. I would like to become good friends with all of you as we share our experiences together. Have a good night.

Jessica, thank you for the information. My son is doing well on his timed runs and coming along with his situps but talks about the pushups like he will never be able to do enough. Is there a secret that he doesn't know or is it just using muscles he is not use to using. He does them everynight. He works out with the recruiter every tuesday with other deppers. He does see improvement but is very slow. Thank goodness for 3 more months. lol. Dodieg. lol, my son also thinks I am too bossy. He is 25 and I tell him I learned it from him. Betsy, Last week I saw my son studying the booklet and he said his recruiter wanted them to learn something in it. I swear he studied it for 5 minutes and then put it down. I asked him if he knew the info and he said oh yea, this isn't the only time I have looked at it. I am going to pretend I don't see alot around here and believe him. I choose not to worry. lol. K

I'm so glad to hear that I am not the only worried about this stuff. My son is talking about working out, but I haven't seen him do it yet. I told him to set aside an hour a day to study to book. Hopefully, he is doing that.

klmcarl - I know what you mean about trying to treat them as an adult male. I've spent the last 23 yrs trying to impart life's lessons learned & it's really hard to turn it off. My son just tunes me out when I get too bossy:)

HI everyone, it is nice to see the activity here. Three months to go and we seem to all have the same worries. I don't want to nag him but when is he going to get that darn book memorized. lol. I cut out these cute little flashcards I found here to help him learn the book but he is taking his time. It is hard when your kids are no longer small and you can't help them anymore. They have to do it themselves. With BC as hard as it is I just want him to be as prepared as possible. He is going to do a man's job so I better start treating him as one. He is starting to feel the pressure as the time slips away. Of course I have a calendar on the refrigerator counting down so it is hard to miss. lol. I am so glad to have you all here to go through this with. ((hugs))

Hello Braintreemom, I was just like you, at first. The closer it gets, the more scarier it gets. I have comes to terms with it now and am very proud of him for making such a life changing decision. We are all here for you, too to help. ((hugs))

That's awesome about your son's exercise routine. I bet he is in great shape.

I had a long talk with Adam last night and he has set this coming Monday to start a serious workout routine. I hope he means it.
