Hello Dawna, I have a hard time with my son in VA now for 3 1/2 years. Hope you fly over and see her better than I can. I have a 5 year old granddaughter who is a big problem for me. I have only been able to see my son every 6 months or so. It's hard but you can do it too. I am proud of him but miss him very much. Good luck Dawna.....You can do it. Congrats to Heather too.. Hello everyone! haven't been on in a while. My daughter Heather PIR June 5 and stayed at GL for A School. She just got her orders last week: Yokosuka Japan aboard the USS George Washington!! She will be there 4 3 yrs and won't be allowed liberty until she has been there for 1 yr!! She tentatively will be home 9/3 and will ship out to Japan from Cleveland 9/17!! Time is gonna be so short with her and I'm not handling it real well to say the least!!Any coping advice??

I don't know why conventionals don't like nukes! My daughter was sent to the nuclear department when she first got onto the Abe Lincoln, she did not know anything about taking care of nukes. My question is, why was she sent to that department in the first place? No one of any rank would/could give her an answer. She was treated as someone who didn't know a "f______" thing. She is now in her normal department, doing her normal work, what she was trained to do and loves the area! She had to fight a good fight to get out of the nuclear reactor department. So her feelings are a bit bias, so that in turn gets her coworkers a bit worked up? On other ships, it might be totally different! Hopefully it is, as I wouldn't want to see any other young girl go through what Kristen did. One thing she has learned over the last few years in the military, she isn't going to take any crap from anyone! She knows how to hold her ground and give a good fight!

So why don't regular MM's like nuke MM's?

Hi, my son is on the USS Cleveland out of San Diego. He's been there since 7/17/09 and is slowly adjusting. He actually had a pretty good time during bc, believe it or not. I think he is getting used to life on a ship, but it's a lot different than bc. He gets leave in Sept. so hopefully we can talk more about it. It's hard by email or phone.

HI, I am hearing all of you talk about your kids being on ships wondering if you could give me some insight. My son just got to Groton for sub school and now I understand staying for A-school. His is a MMS. Can you fill me in on when he would go out?

Faith, I asked my daughter if she would be a good one for you to talk to. She asked if you were interested in being a conventional or a nuke? Conventionals supposedly don't like Nukes! Kristen is conventional and works on just about anything and everything on a ship except anything to do with the nuclear department. At this time she is on the USS Abraham Lincoln out of Everett, WA. She has had to hold her own in a man's world, in many different parts of the world, with this being her second ship. I have to admit, she does have many interesting stories to tell! If you would like her address, just give a message on this site. (I can't remember it now!)

Hello, I was wondering if any of you moms would be willing to let me e-mail with your son/daughter. I'm not sure about being and MM anymore so I wanted to chat with someone who has gone through all the schooling and is in fleet right now doing the MM job. Please let me know I would greatly appreciate it. I still want to do Navy don't get me wrong I'm just not sure about being an MM anymore.

My son is also on the Nimitz, so I follow both groups, and the Iowa group. There is also a Nuke group but most of the people on there are still in A school.

Welcome bee999hive. It's good to have some one new aboard! I get lots of good tips on how to contact the ship in emergencys, how other mom's deal with their kids being gone etc... and its nice to know that some one else knows what it's like to go through this. Dads/husbands just don't get the attachment moms have, at least mine hubby anyway!

My son, John, is an MM3 on the Nimitz. I just joined the USS Nimitz group this morning.
