Tina - my oldest is also in GC and also in power school right now. I can't say that he loves it but he is doing well and has met some buddies now and having some fun on the side.

Hi everyone...I am new to this site..my doughter just enlisted today with the rate MM. I looked up to see what she signed up for and was very suprised. But reading some of the posts in here where their girls where "Girly Girls" like mine and love what they are doing. My son is also a sailor he is currently at GL A school for HM. She decided to join after seeing her big brothers PIR in Oct. Her ship date is March 23rd. I am very proud of her and her decision to join the Navy, but like other mothers just concerned about if she will like the rate she picked. She really wanted to be a HM and get into radiology.

Hi Trina and welcome! My son Brian is a MM on The George H.W. Bush in Norfolk (actually the ship is in Newport News right now) and he is doing well. This is a very proud place to be!

My oldest son is in GC in the 2nd phase of the school he is a MM and he loves it. The school is hard but he studies alot and he is coming home for Christmas so that will be a good break for him. I haven't been on here in a long time. I am so looking forward to seeing him.

NY Navy Wife--my son is an MM in prototype, and right now he doesn't get to see his wife much. They work rotating 12-15 hr shifts. Plus, the first 15 days, they do not get any breaks or days off. He did have a great commander who did give them some early afternoons off on Fridays after that first string of days. He ordered "mandatory fun" Fridays, and after they cleaned up they went back for things like picnics.

Hi, just joined this group. My son started class in Pensacola last week for Aviation Machinist Mate - AD. Wow I didn't know there were so many different machinist mates.

I'm new to the group. My daughter just did PIR on Friday and will transfer over to A school side tomorrow. Her rate is MM and I'm a bit worried as to how she will handle that. She knows nothing at all of tools and mechanics. How does this rate work out for the girls? Are they able to hang with it? I wasn't sure what to expect. Anyone know how long school will be for her before she's shipped out somewhere? They told her she would be in GL A school until March but she doesn't know anything else.

Hey everyone, I'm kinda new to the group again lol. I haven't been on here for a long while. My husband is a Nuke MM waiting to go to power school. I can't wait until he's in proto school, so I can see him more often that I am now.

Hi Cathy! My sailor loves prototype over regular classes. Give him a job and food, and he's on it! Glad to have you with us.
