Oh wow...it's been awhile since I have been on here. Welcome to everyone..so good to see so much chatter. Joellen, I am so jealous...that Tiger Cruise sounded so cool...also loved your Christmas Card! Thanks for sending it. We have had quite the 2 weeks. We went to Camp Pendleton to see Christopher graduate from FMTB. But we got more than we bargained for. It seems that he and another Corpsman had taken a sick Corpsman to the ER and were on the way back to barracks when they noticed a Marine sitting on the overpass. Chris said it looked odd so they stopped to talk with him. He didn't want to talk and to make a long story short, as he went to put his other leg around they stopped him from jumping from the bridge. Thankfully, they saved a Marine family from a horrible Christmas. Chris and the other Corpsman were called out at the end of the grad ceremony and were presented with the NAM medal (Navy Achievement Medal). We were told that noone has been honored like that in at least 15 years at grad. All the "Brass" that normally don't attend FMTB grad were there, including the Marine higher-ups to thank them. Only a few graduates knew about it and we only knew that Chris might be called out for something since it had happened only about 7 hours before. Leave it to your child to bring tears to your eyes. Of course, everyone wanted to meet "the parents" as well so we were busy as well. What a joy to know that that Marine will be able to get the help he needs without ruining his family's holidays forever. Chris also received "coins" from the "Chief Commander" as well. Katie and Alicia plan on leaving Sault Ste Marie the morining of December 23rd. Tonight they are out celebrating Katie's 20th birthday and Alicia has to work on the 22nd, otherwise they would leave tomorrow. I'll give them a call to see if it would be better to leave the 22nd or wait until the 23rd. Thanks for the 'heads up' ;)

Marianne, make sure your daughters are checking the weather, we live in the UP and they are forcasting a "snow event" (don't you love that word) starting later this week, no real details yet, but are advising anyone in the UP who will be traveling to keep track of this storm. Good Luck.

My daughter has the International plan on her cell phone, and it comes in handy. She is able to call whenever they have signal, and not have to wait for the ships phones, which may or may not be working. Kathy B. I'm glad your avaitor is home! Marianne, I'm glad your daughter is home too.

How wonderful Kathy! Enjoy your time together. Katie has been home since the 13th. She did 4 days of RAP and now she is visiting her sister Alicia in Sault Ste Marie. They'll drive home together on the 23rd. We'll go to my Mom's for Christmas Eve/Day in Lansing. Then Katie returns to Sasebo Japan the AM of the 26th!

Anyone with any deployment experience. My question cell phone, what do we do with my sons? I see some phones now have Global Capabilites, would this be worth getting? Or should I just suspend his service while he is deployed?

Congrats Cheryl, 24 yrs ago my husband and I got married in Va Beach while he was in the Navy. Now our son is joining. He leaves for boot camp next month
