Navy For Moms

I will be doing scarfs for Christmas,to send to Afganistan. Since it takes a while to knit or crotchet a number of scarfs, I'm asking all of you for your help now. The scarfs will need to be no wider than 8 inches and 60 inches long and no fringe that could get caught in their gear. They must be desert camo, tans, and browns. Any of you have any questions, please let me know. The more scarfs the better. They will all be sent to our sailors and Marines to keep them warm. To those who don't knit & crochet the scarfs can be made of polar fleece. They actually have a fabric pattern that looks like a sand (grades of tans). Since the fleece is about 60" wide, all the you need to do is cut 7 or 8' wide stripes and the cut off the selvages to make them look neat.

We now have 250 scarfs.

Count me in...I can make the polar fleece scarves. I can knit, but it would take me til next year to finish one. lol
The polar fleece is perfect for me...quick and easy. They don't need any type of finishing around the edges? If not, all the better. I'll be sure to start watching for my JoAnn fabrics coupons and I can pick up fabric here and there.
Great idea! Thanks Lyn for taking this on!!!

I don't do any finish around the polar fleece scarfs because I'm always afraid that it might catch on some kind of important equipment. The simpler the better. We are going for warm not for fashion.

I would love to crochet some scarfs. Is there a favorite pattern you like to use. I only crochet so if you have a crochet pattern that would be great. I'm ready to being.
