Hi all... Although my D has been in the Navy as a NUPOC since her sophomore year in college it did not seem real as she was not going anywhere other than University of Miami.

Reality is setting in as she just graduated and will be headed to OCS. I am heartbroken knowing that I will not be able to talk with her. It is good to know that I have a group of moms to talk to and act as support

NukeMomCarol,

I saw your post on the OCS page and did not realize you also posted here!!!  It sounds like your daughter was in a program similar to my girl.  She was in the Navy but only attended college for two years, her junior and senior year.  After graduation she reported to OCS in July.  She was able to come home after graduation because she moved out of her apartment she lived in for her 4 years of college and put a bunch of her stuff in storage.  Then she drove to OCS and left her car parked there until after commissioning.  Is there a chance your girl will be able to come home before she reports??  Before she leaves, make sure she has your phone number and email address memorized or written down in her wallet as once she gets to Newport she will call to let you know she made it, and give you her address.  After that they turn in their cell phone and will have no access to her contacts list on her phone.  Same with email, week 4 they will get email access but it will be a military address on a secure military computer.  She will not have access to her personal email address book or contact list.  Make sure she has the address and phone numbers of people she may want to call or email.

Thank you for your help... Yes she is home now after graduating and we are waiting for her to go to OCS... She has been told that it will probably be July 16.
She was told by a friend already in OCS to drive her car there and lock her phone and belongings in the car.
Should she get phone cards to use.
One frustrating thing is that she was in college in Miami but we live in NY. She needs to see a dermatologist (strange mole) and has to go back to doctor in Miami.... Very frustrating that they can't give her a doctor up here. Luckily her father retired from Delta and she flies for free.
Thank you,
Carol

NukeMomCarole,

She should keep her cell phone with her.  They will lock it up safe for all the candidates but by week 10 they actually get their cell phones back as they will be running the regiment in the last 3 weeks and need to use their cell phones.  Yes to the calling card.  Help her get one now to have it and get it activated before she reports.  Also make sure she studies up on all the stuff her recruiter should have given her that she needs to have MEMORIZED before she reports to OCS.  Also spend this time really working out and being prepared.  The first 3 weeks can be grueling for new candidates, even those who come from active duty!!!

Sucks that she has to go back to Miami for a doctor but at least it won't cost her!!!  Hope all works out well for her.

Yes the Miami thing is frustrating plus takes time away from home and me
