Comment 2intheservice - Thanks so much! I know my daughter will love the freedom of her upcoming do too. I haven't told her yet but I'm seriously considering cutting mine off too just so she's not alone. We'll see! =0}

Pat - Thanks for the warm welcome. My daughter hasn't taken her official test quite yet but she did take the practice test on Monday. She wants to ace it so we bought her an ASVAB study book that she's been knee deep in for 3 days straight now. She's going to call the recruiter next week to schedule her official testing. I can't wait to find out what she'll be doing but I certainly hope it's what she's hoping for. =0}

Anna - Thank you so much for the suggestion that she donate her hair. I hadn't even thought of that. I told her what you said and she is very excited and wants to donate it for sure. We've talked about that wait too. Her recruiter said that when she finds out her job, her BC starting date could be anywhere from 2 days to 12 months out. We're basically preparing to hurry up and wait LOL.

Thanks again ya'll!

Good evening everyone!! Hope everyone is doing well.
I see Blondie must have the day off today since she isn't on here. Hope she is resting and getting that BP down!!

Welcome Tiff,
I admire your daughter taking such a bold step ahead of time. It's good that she is doing that on her terms. She should consider donating her hair to organizations that make wigs for kids battling cancer. Wigs for Kids is an organization both of my daughters have donated to.
Pat asked if she knows what she will be doing once she gets in. The rate she chooses also determines when she leaves for bc. Detailers will determine when she can start A school for her rate and then back up to when she will report for bc from that date. I don't want to scare her or you but she could have a long wait. Hopefully that won't be the case for her but at least she should know that it can happen.

2 in the service,
I'm sorry, but I don't remember where your girl is and what does she do? And who is your second one serving? I have a son and daughter serving and another daughter that has put in her application for the officer program. We are waiting for her acceptance letter sometime this month (and keeping fingers crossed!!)

Raineagle,
So good to hear from you again!! Congratulations to Shai!! You will definately have to post some pics for us!!!

Where's Joanne today?? And DC??

Hi Pat (Mom of Jenn). My name is Tiff! My daughter doesn't have her BC start date, she's just in the beginning stages of her enlistment. She graduates from high school in May and is hoping that she leaves shortly after. I love this site! Thanks so much for the support! =0}

Hi all! My daughter has made the decision to cut all of her hair off prior to leaving for BC. Her hair reaches about 10 inches past her collar and after going round and round and round, terrified and trying to figure out how they're going to cut it when she arrives at BC she has made the decision to just go for it and take it ALL off. She's never cut her hair off before but she's open for change and new things and this is just one of the ways she's adjusting. I'm excited because I know she is going to be gorgeous with short curly hair, I can't wait. She plans to do it now so she can have time to get used to it. Go NAVY!!!

Good afternoon,

Joanne, I know you are anxiously looking forward to Kasey's visit. ENJOY!

NavyMom, I am more handy than my husband with some things. I don't do well on a ladder. He has little patience. That's why I suggested taking the whole thing (the "box") and taking it to the store. I lost that suggestion.

Welcome, Gritsrn. I think you will find that this is a very friendly, supportive group.

Started a digital photography course this morning. I have this fancy camera and really do not make use of its power. Maybe I'll learn to do more now.

Blondie, I have tried a pillow but they are "softy" down pillows. I need to bring down one of the foam pillows I have.

My granddaughter is headed out to Japan sometimes this month, if the Navy every makes up its mind when she is going. She will be through C school on 3/11 and then she is taking leave to see her mom. Any time after that. She will be assigned to the GW air craft carrier. According to a news release by them, all is well on the Eastern front from the tsnunami. I had not heard about an earthquake. I'll have to check that out.

Pat, it was quite a surge. I have never heard a crack (POW) like that. The surge protectors were smoking and smelled like electrical fire. It was worrisome to go to sleep after that. We did unplug things and it took a while to go to sleep. The logic board on our garage board is gone because of the surge. What really annoys me is the cost of the service call. The cost of travel is more expensive than the part or the labor. I suggested that we take the opener down and take it to Bangor. DH was not up to that so I guess we will suck it up.

We had winds today and snow/sleet/rain. The ground is warmer so little stuck. We did have some outside damage but nothing too bad.

I have power back. We had a major power surge. It fried several surge protectors ... and we also have a whole house surge protector. Luckily no equipment was hurt. We had a couple trees down across the lane and several more are broken off but have not yet fallen.

I did get the CPAP machine and my husband says I am sleeping more peacefully. Unfortunately I have not been moving and my back really hurts. I need to get it checked out.

Maggie,
So good to hear from you!! I put a comment on your page for you!! Love your picture!! Enjoy your visit with your daughter!!

Glad everyone is doing ok -
Joanne,
Sorry to hear you had some damage and loss but I'm glad it wasn't any worse for you!! Yes, we do have lots to be thankful here that what with all the worry of yesterday and all these crazy winter storms it could be worse.

Dori,
Do you have power back yet? Any other storm damage in your area?

NavyMom,
I understand how your girl feels tho'!! I'd be a little ticked having one day off out of the past dozen and then having to be called in. And all for what - - a little wave!! ha ha ok just kidding there!!!
