Pre-Dive is finished on 12/18/09 at GL for the class reporting to FL. 1/06/10. I believe 14 completed training and will report to FL. Congratulations to all of sailors that are able to keep following there dream. With the amount of time between the completion of training and classing up in Fl. the sailors have time to come home for the holidays. My son is flying home today, before he goes to FL., and is looking forward to the warm weather in So Cal after chilling at GL.

Tomorrow is Aaron and Dan's (Gerry's son) graduation from dive school. What an amazing journey it has been for our boys. Best wishes to all of those who are just starting.

Pool week for the next dive class going to Florida started 10/03/09. This is the final elimination process at GL before dive training at Panama City Beach FL.. The swim tests the sailors must pass are very difficult and this training phase is when the most drops happen. The dive trainee group has been reduced to 18 as of 12/10/09. On the final pool test evolution, fin with tanks & weight belt, 11 of 18 passed on the 1st attempt. The sailors who didn't pass will get additional chances over the next couple of days. Hopefully more of the sailors can pass this final evolution as they have all endured so much to get this far. My son & his partner were in the group of 11 that passed on there 1st. attempt. HOOYA for all of sailors that will be reporting to FL. for dive training on 1/06/10.

My son enlisted and was in the delayed entry program for NAVY SPEC OPS contracts. He had to pass a physical screening test before the NAVY signed him into the ND program. All NAVY SPEC OPS contracts require at least the minimum scores on the physical screening requirements. Check this NAVY web sight for specific ND requirements http://www.navy.com/about/navylife/onduty/navydiver/requirementsandtests/ . ND have to pass a secret security background check and must have a Secret Security Clearance before they are offer the ND contract.
Once he had his ND contract he had to wait about four months for a opening in the ND training pipeline. The Chief recruiter told him, just before he left for recruit training, that the ND rate was closed and he was lucky to have made it in and receive signing bonus.
My question to you is what rate was put down on his NAVY contract? It is important to get the rate you won't before you sign your contract. You have no bargaining power with a NAVY Detailer once you have entered the NAVY. They can give any rate and you have to accept it.
I have no knowledge about retained hardware and have never encountered that phrase.

Cmesa, So, how long did it take him to get a contract? And do you know anything about retained hardware preventing them from getting accepted to Navy Diver???

Several of the guys in Aaron's class have cars and some had cars in dive prep, (those that were close enough to get them) they were allowed to have them after a certain amount of weeks once they had earned the right to go off base.

So, (just for clarification) they can have cars in Panama City, but not at GL pre-dive?

cmesa - thanks for the info about not showing up before the 4th in PC.

Gerry - did your son get a chance to put down choices on base location or did the Navy just tell him Guam?

thanks

To ginny
Navy Diver classes were full after my son was accepted into the delayed entry program. My son is in the current Pre-Dive class at GL and there were several men coming from fleet into the diver program. There are several closed rates in the Navy at this time. Your son may have to check with a Navy detailer to find what rates or available.

To waterski34
My son told me that if he makes it through Pre-Dive training he can't report to Panama City Beach before Jan. 4th or he will have pay for lodging till he can report in on the 4th.
