Congrats Angelika - I should have given you my number to call when you were here. Do you come back here for the oath?

Sam - I double exactly what MIMI said. My son Robby is an AZ in Meridian. He actually graduated last week and is on hold waiting for his orders. They are SO MUCH HARDER on AZ's in Meridian than any of the other rates and the hold period is forever (for the guys...the girls do seem to progress much faster and smoother). He is learning patience (but not very well...he is an outspoken and has never been patient) - he has been screwed over many times while at Meridian also and it is tainting his Navy experience. I just pray it gets better once he gets stationed. If he is on hold for months b4 he actually starts his job I think he may 'lose it'!!!! Like MIMI said, Robby and I have said numerous times that if we knew then what we knew know he would have switched his rate before he left for GL.

Peggy I'm so happy for you.
Mother, I know this is sooo hard for you and him too. That was so sweet for him to say that. Gives you something to hold onto.
Sam, welcome...I must say Jesse didnt mind Meridian that much at all until he waited to get his orders in..then he was ready to get on with his navy life. He is really happy with his job. He was lucky and went straight to work in his rate. It was actually very stressfull for him since they were getting ready for a big inpection and didnt have time to train him as they said they would have. He had some problems with his chief but it all worked out. Jesse isnt either on of those that will keep his mouth shut..he is very out-spoken, bold, straight forward young man. Right now he is in combat training. He will be working the gate for 8 months. He has 2 more weeks of training left I believe.
Jesse and Jamie came home last Fr. evening. Pretty much just stopped by here to get my car and went to the football game. When Jesse came home he showed us some of the things he has learned...lol. he and Kenny had themself a really good laugh at my expense..Jesse had me all twisted up, laying on the floor, autsch autsch..
But it was so good to see him and hear some of the stories that night. We had a great time that weekend. Really got to spend a lot of time with him.

My son left yesterday for the hotel;they must be up today at 4 am,togo to the navy office, for the last checkup, then go to the airport, this should be at noon.He told me that if he has to be born again he wants to be my son again....I started crying,of course...but I thought about him, that I knew he was holding his tears and I wanted for him to left in a peaceful manner.
Loving you all, have a nice day.

Well I have put up my first home Christmas tree,a Navy Tree...bought a 6'6" white pre lit and am filling it with all kinds of Navy Ornaments, went to Hobby Lobby and found cool stickers in the scrap book section of all kinds of navy stuff and I'm mounting them on white plain flat ornaments and tieing them on with blue ribbon, also making photo pictures of some of my daughters AZ Friends to include on the tree,I think we will add to it with photo's of her friends that she meets through-out her Navy career, even photos of her recruiters...now how cool is that????I'll post a photo as soon as I complete it....now you all know I am a real proud Navy Mom. My SJ called from Meridian tonight and is still happy she only has 1 more test and a final and will graduate A school....wow the time has flown by and she says she is really looking forward to her next step.WE are still making plans for Thanksgiving dinner with the Sailors in Meridian....and I am actually excited about all that cooking, plan on taking off from the Zoo this Wed. to do my pre-trip shopping and plan on cooking and freezing pies and cakes and a few casseroles....just don't know how many we'll have, but should be one to remember. Sam, my best advice is talk to the recruiter and get him to change your sons job. Don't take NO for an answer , raise hell. They have recruited this position to the hilt, 130% and with the way they are drumming kids out after their 4 yrs are up, it is SO hard to get anywhere, anything after E-4 is full. no matter if you pass your test or not, that is as far as you can get right now and for the foreseeable future. It is so over booked their is a wait time for A school, Merdian is not the happiest place on earth, although it is MUCH better than it was a year ago, and once he gets through A-school, well lets just say some kids have been with their station 4 months and are just now getting to learn and work at the AZ position.
Again, it's because they are over booked. Now, the Girls seem to fair better in this rate than the guys do, quotas, and if you have the work ethics of a plow horse and can keep your mouth shut , even if you see something wrong, you will be ok. But the rate has become so competitive, it is very hard to move up unless you get very lucky and are pretty passive.
My son is not the example I would use. My sailor has had some awful things happen, and when faced with the life decision of which road to go down, he picked the wrong one. He had many unfair things happen at Meridian and I think it colored his choice to be a stand up , hard working guy, or to do just enough to get along.
So I am not using our experience to base this on at all, BUT, if we had known then what we know now, we sure would have picked a different rate, and he feel the same way as do many sailors I have spoken with when visiting my son on base.
So, talk to some of the other Moms on here, as this has only been my experience, but I will tell you, before he went in, we started to have the same feelings you are now, and wished like heck we would have done something about it while we still could. Up until he is sworn in for real, he can get out of it. You can even threaten , look I have the info YOU should have given us now, and either he changes his job, or we are going to go talk to the air force!
I have wished a hundred times since A-school we would have known enough to do this. Good luck! My son loved Boot camp, many do!
