Hi Sandy,
I'm Sheila...I started this page because I was feeling just exactly the way you feel right now. Our sailor has never been one to "push the envelope" with anyone (except us, when it came to those teenager rebellion times), so when he was calling and talking about his possible "undesignated" status, I had several meltdowns (not while we were on the phone with him)....it's the total lack of clarity and direction that got to me the most...My goodness, that's one of the BIG reasons my son joined, was for DIRECTION

Sandy,

Hang in there, all is not lost. Check in with Hoppi, she is a wealth of info about this very topic. I'm sure she can steer you and even help you find web sites that explain the classification process.

Good luck, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Janet

thanks for responding Julie... Yes we sure hope that will happen I just dont know well thats just it You DONT know it 6 years of you life or 4 what ever you just signed up for.. And like the negative thing right now is so many of the prime A schools seem to be SO locked up tight!! I seem to be hearing how locked up this school is, or that school is. Its really frustrating... I told him if he doesnt like what is offered (come home.) Unfortunatly? You know? you got a smart good kid thats fit as a fiddle I would hope something decent is offered but if its not, your like stuck for how many years?.... But right,. I shall try the Recruiter Q& A group, weve contacted his own recruiter...I mean I have heard people say that its the best thing that could happend to them being (undesegnated) and I really know thats true in a lot of cases actually! Believe it or not...So I guess God wil guide this ship..this week we will know..? when we know! So, but thanks for you sholder, julie I hope all is wel with you son cory. what is he doing in the Navy? Give me some hope..LOL o)

Sandy: I just turned the computer on again and the 1st page for N4M's, on the left hand side, under groups showed a "Q & A from a recruiter....I clicked on it and it seems to be a pretty active site. You might ask your questions there and get a faster and more informed response. Julie

Hi Sandy: I really just want to welcome you to our group. Not sure I can answer any of the questions r/t "reclassification:. I'm thinking that since he's still in bootcamp that he may get his choice of another "A" school where there is an opening. I think I would call his recruiter...or there is a MC on this site (the faceless picture in the second row). If you click on his picture it will take you to his page and I think he has an email address listed. Hope that helps.

Ok, Im New and happy your all here: But Im not so happy to be here myself, Heres my quick litle story...My son Tom has been told his "eye's" did not pass the muster for Air Rescue he is in Boot Graduating on Feb 13th of Feb....SO" He is to meet on this "Thursday" to be "reclassified"...This is not something that has totally suprised us, we knew his eyes were borderline. But does anyone have any hints at how this "reclasification" will play out on thursday...Im trying to read all your previous pages and they are helpfull for me...but this is really frustrating to say the least. Thanks for any thoughts or tips you might like to share. PS His asvab score was nice and high and he is in very good shape..I dont know if that plays a factor or not but I dont know anything right now I just hope this does not mean our sons and daughters get any less Rate,. Pay, or recognition, with this whole senario...Id love any thoughts THANKS..♥

Hello all,
You're sweet, Princess for thanking me for starting this page, but believe me, it was a matter of survival for me. We are definitely in our own little boat as undesignated, but we are still Navy Moms, and we've got to stick together! The time frame for Martin had several facets that may not have been true for others who are undesignated. We are convinced that his orders were slower in coming due to the timing of the national election in November. It sounds like things are moving a little quicker now. I'm so thankful he was sent to Hawaii, because he loves warmer weather.....it's just really far away! Good to hear you made it through the holidays. I don't know what I would have done if the base was close enough to see my sailor as often as you have been able to...I think you have had a major blessing, but also, a much more major struggle to let go, would be the natural result. You are in my prayers as he starts a new chapter in his Navy career. We are here for you!

I haven't posted here in a few days....had some oral surgery the Monday after Christmas, and have been on the mend. My sailor's ship in Hawaii, is now out of dry dock (which was a couple of miles away from everything else), and they are in the main harbor at Pearl. He sounds magnificent and is anxious for their deployment set for June. He wants to strike for Boswain's Mate rate asap. (His Dad was one....go figure) I'm clueless about how soon that could be.

Joan, it's great to read the good news about Bryan....glad he can have a visit before heading out. I have the same hopes for Martin as far as college credit goes, but I know he's not thinking about that right now.

Happy New Year everyone!

Hi Everyone,

Hope everything is going good for you and your sailors. Bryan is home for a day or two and will be going to his ship in San Diego on Wednesday. He is positive about it and even speaks now of striking a rate after their "shake down" cruise early next fall. I hope he will take up the opportunity to take a college class or two. Well best wishes to everyone for 2009, it will be a great year with new challenges and even better opportunities.

Thanks to all who have answered. This has been very helpful. I am so glad that Sheila set up this group without we would all be swimming without paddles in such new territory.
