Julie, get out of here .. just left your page.. are you in Peoria for real? Julie, I just moved from Peoria in 2005 to the Windy city. I lived in Fletcher Heights from 2000 to 2005 at 83rd and Ross Ave. The world is very small. I miss sunny AZ and will move back when the economy is better and my younger two are done with middle school. I bet that area is packed with people now. We were going to buy a Beazer home till I got a career oppty out here in the Windy City.

Princess: I hope someone else gets on the page before long and can answer your question. My son, Cory, was transferred to Little Creek , Virginia and is with a Seabee unit...he did not go to a ship. I think it was about 2 weeks before he finished at Great Lakes that he knew his assignment. Julie

I have a question for any of you that have finished the classes at Great Lakes. Mike starts his classes on Tuesday and I was wondering how long did it take for you to find out what ship they will be assigned to? I know Sheila's son is in Hawaii. I would really like to know as soon as possible so we can know what to expect as he navigates his new status.

I have the front yard complete, but have not tackled the tree and house yet. I am a bit overwhelmed with all the new changes in my life.

My sailor gets weekend liberty from Great Lakes, so I have been picking him up and enjoying him, then taking him back before 2000 hours is hard. I am an emotional wreck. He remains calm, cool and collected and I'm a mess.

I'm with all of you, too. Adam left Monday and it is just like July all over again. I think he is more homesick now that he got to come home! I hope he will feel better once they start school back next week.
Happy New Year, all!

Julie~ Hang on, you will make it! I've been procrastinating about taking the few things down that I managed to put up, for that very same reason! I've decided that since 99% of our decorations have been the same since he was little, when we do get to share another Christmas, I will pull out all the stops. It's going to look like Christmas threw up all over my house when Martin gets to be here next time....:) You've done great through this entire holiday season Julie, and you are entitled to "let it all hang out" if you need to. We are learning our own lessons about being brave and strong, just like our sailors.....Hang in there!

Hang in there Julie. I know this is really difficult for you. You are an amazing Mom and Cory loves you and misses you too.

Okay Friends: It's New Years Day....I'm in the middle of a MAJOR meltdown! I took the tree down, got the decorations put away and then realized....Cory never got to see them!!! It was my 1st Christmas without him.....not that I have any new or exciting decorations that I put up. Not that he hasn't seen the house decorated for all the 19 Christmases he was at home.....He probably doesn't really care.....but right this minute none of that matters......It's all put away and he never got to see it!

MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Hope everyone has a WONDER-FILLED day. I just got in from work and am off to dinner and church with some friends soon. Guess what....I met A.C. Green (basketball) and he signed a Christmas card for Cory! So, that will probably top any gift I bought for him....

Amie: How exciting that Adam knows Cory...N4M really is a wonderful site!

Hi Everyone!
Sorry it's been so long since I've been able to post. We've been working hard at having Christmas without Martin.....and it's been tough. We've changed a lot of things we normally do, on purpose, and that has helped. We hear from him every couple of days, and he's a little homesick. I think it's normal, and once the holiday is past, I'm sure he'll be fine. But I've decided that 2008 has had a few too many "firsts" in it, and would prefer just to fast forward into 2009, so we can start having some "seconds and thirds" again. In our chat today, he told me he still had not received the two boxes of Christmas presents, etc. I mailed almost two weeks ago. I'm really going to be sad if they don't get to him by tomorrow. (I'm sure they don't have mail call on Christmas)...but, once again, there is not one solitary thing I can do about it if they don't make it...so I'll pull up my big girl pants and get on with it.....AGAIN...

I'm so blessed to have a place to vent....sorry if I'm too negative. I'm so happy for all of you who have your sailors home with you....give them all a squeeze from me! Paige, so glad your sailor has had the normal reality check about his Mom....yep, you're the one who cares the most! It's great to know they are finally getting a clue! And the "Time jealousy" thing is totally normal....I got the same the last time Martin was here. I guess they have to mature a little more before they see we are the best buddy they'll ever have!
