What exactly do you mean, Sheila, re: packaged food?

I know for sure that you cannot send any packaged food that does not have a label on it....re: it has to have ingredients listed on it etc etc otherwise you're free to send basically anything you want ....hi Eaglemom...hows the sailor doing so far?

If she does not live off base, she may have a friend who does. It is MUCH faster to send it UPS or FEDEX or DHL. If you send it by the APO it will have to go through military mail and that takes forever! especially during the holidays. USPS will be flooded with packages.

This is going to sound kind of dumb...but does she have a physical address on base. I usually send her packages usps priority mail flat rate box and it takes 2 weeks to get there. We get a great fedex discount at work, which definitely was great when she was in the states. Maybe the international will be be good too?

LOL Barb! What a cute idea! You could send one of those tiny little pumpkin pies they sell at Walmart. Or maybe One of those crouton packets that come with the Chick-fil-A salad: a little butter, chicken broth and salt and pepper and it tastes pretty good!! LOL (You get creative when you are desperate for a side dish!! LOL ) Just tell her she is gonna have to make her own stuffing!! Oh! and a packet of grape jelly from a restaurant for your "cranberry sauce". Ha! Ha! How's that? : ]
The only other advice i have is: send it DHL (or something like that) to her physical address. NOT to the APO address. Because otherwise it takes 2-4 weeks to send things during the holidays.

So everyone else is thinking about sending Christmas goodies. Any advice or tips on sending stuff overseas would be greatly welcomed. I understand that it has to be sealed and packed well to make it one piece to Sicily. But, what travels best? I want my sailor to have as much of back home Christmas as possible. Also, to start the holidays, I want to send her a "Thanksgiving Dinner" in a box. (This is kind of a joke.) So far I have gathered Turkey Jerky, Boston Baked Beans (candy) candy corn and craisins. Anybody have any other suggestions, going along with this theme?
Thanks for any help!

LOL Sarosa!! Yay, you for remembering!! i am afraid that i don't know enough about it to advise you! I did send a german chocolate pound cake to Bahrain and it did okay! Just make sure it is sealed real well cause it could take up to a month to get there!! : ]

I'm very proud of my last-minute self for realizing I need to get my Christmas package out to my son soon! Anything I should know before I start getting stuff? Is my mother's rum-soaked fruitcake going to be problem? ;-)

Good grief, where IS everbody?

I don't have a lot to report. My son did make it there okay but didn't talk long when he called.

God Bless

Mary, your thoughts are mine. My heart so goes out to all the people hurt and also their families, but i am especially touched by the deaths of the 19-29 year soldiers for they could be our sons and daughters too.
It is important for all of us to express our feelings in order to release the poison of stifled and festering pain. For soon i, too, will need somebody to lean on. We are all sisters of the heart. So any time that i might help by listening is not onorous. It is act of joyful caring.
God Bless You and Yours.
