You guys are right - Salvation Army kettle. But I am not a bellringer. My husband and I are the pastors at a local Salvation Army church. Many people do not know that we are a church. We are also responsible for the kettle campaign to raise funds.

Once it snows here in Lakewood, NY we're lucky if we see the grass before the end of April. We are on the receiving end of lake effect snow from Lake Eire.

I know where Jamesville is, know some people there too. Wow, to go from California to N.Y. is quite a change. How long has he been in N.Y.? I can tolerate the cold but get quite sick of the snow piling up. seems like you go through and clean your driveway out and the snowplow comes right behind you to fill it in with 3 foot of snow lol. so far we are lucky,saw a few flakes a few weeks ago but nothing stuck to the ground.

Patty, my eldest son and his family live in NY State, just outside Syracuse....Jamesville. My daughter-in-law's 3 brothers spend their winters clearing poeple's roofs and driveways of the humungous amounts of snow they get in that area. My son's a S. California boy so I'm surprised he can tolerate the cold and snow. I'm in Oregon and we get a little but nothing too much, just in the mountains around us.

actually, we don't get as much snow as Minnesota, and probably not as much as Pennsylvania, but we get some, and we get ICE that lasts from the November rains through the Spring when the temperatures finally warm up enough to melt everything... otherwise, Iowa is a great place to live... really!
