My daughter just told us today that she will get her winging date when she reports on Feb 27. Yep, everything is subject to change but at least we'll know approximately when she'll get her wings of gold! So excited...

Thanks everyone for all the great advice - will be packing cameras! Needless to say, we are getting extremely excited! He did a x-country yesterday with another buddy to New Orleans - they each flew a leg. Apparently, they were supposed to fly into the airport that is close to downtown, but because of high cross winds they ended up diverting to the naval base down there. When they got back to Corpus and were doing their post-flight stuff, there were a couple of instructors standing around and they asked the boys where they went and if anything unusual happened. So when the instructor heard that they made the decision to divert, they said "Well, it's good to know that everyone is paying attention" and were very pleased.

There is no annoucement for a winging.

Yes, make sure you have an extra person to take pictures of your new avaitor, because you will be on stage with your officer when they get their wings.

They do take professioanl pictures of the winging and the group that you will get later.

Extra batteries and film.

For our son it was basically word of mouth as to the date/time/place and all of the festivities that went along with the weekend. I know what you mean about the commissioning. I was able to have something printed up before hand- I think we seemed to know the dates a lot further in advance. Congratulations!!!

This is for the already "winged" moms - is there an actual invitation/announcement(printed) of the winging ceremonies? I was able to get something for commissioning, but have not seen anything for winging. Don't want to ask my son right now as he has 2 more flights to finish this week and is not talking very much :)

Hey Andrea - We even live in the same basic part of the country! You're in Petaluma and we're in the valley in Folsom :-)

DJ JetJockeyMom-My son is at Whidbey too-he is in the EAWS(the school Involving the Growler). Loves Whidbey, has been there before. It is hard for us because he is 3000 miles away(we are on the east coast, in NY)Oak Harbor is a beautiful town. He lived there before, and now he and his wife live in Mount Vernon

IsP3Orion - I was kind of hoping Tracy would get P3's so she WOULD get Kaneohe Bay! That's where I grew up! Oh well, Whidbey is beautiful and I can't wait for her to be a little closer to home (better than being 3000 miles away on the East Coast for the last 3 years...LOL).

Hi NFOMom - Tracy told us she got "following orders" (??) that are sending her to VQ-2 after she is finished at JAX. If your daughter is going to Whidbey, I'm sure she will meet Tracy when she gets there. The girls kind of gravitate toward each other :-) Apparently, EVERYONE else in their primary class got tailhook, but she was the top student and got her second choice! She was really excited about it! She said she has NO desire to fly onto carriers!

Hi DJ! Back again after busy times. Is your son still set to go to WA or is he already there?
