Know what you mean - our daughter has been underway since mid September, so don't get to talk to her very often either.

Glad you've found a job with people you like - it makes all the rest of it worthwhile.

Hi Everyone; Just thought I'd touch basis... How is everyone doing? I recently was prn for a company & then they offered me a Full time position.... The pay isn't what I"m use to.. but I LOVE the women I work w/.... Never in my career have I worked in such close proximatey w/so many women that got along so well.... We all know how that can be.... Anyway; I hope everyone is doing well.... Getting to see or communicate w/their Sailors like they want.... Jonis has been underway since Aug. so I haven't got to talk w/him much or even hear from him via email very often... As you all know how hard that can be; but it's all a part of the life he signed us up for..... Hope everyone has a good Holiday season & I look forward to hearing from each of you....

Thanks for the welcome. Congrats on your two sailors, I know you're proud. I'm working for a company called Amedisys, it's top of the line home health and hospice. I don't really do nursing much now, except when they get a wound that's complicated or complicated vac application, then I get to teach. Started in hospital (didn't like nights) then went to home health and have been there since. I did field nursing for a while, quality improvement coordinator, clinical supervisor, director of nursing, now account manager. Wasn't unhappy with the others, it was just a natural progression (except DON, didn't like being over people who didn't want to work) My daughter is 22, she has about 3 years in college, she signed up for DEP and was told it would be a year before BC, then she went in to the office not even a week later to see if she could go any sooner (thinking in months) and the master chief called while she was there saying there was a female position open for her field would anyone be interested in going sooner, and now here we are. I felt sorry for her, she didn't even have time to train with them before going, but she's doing well. She passed everything with flying colors she says. She just finished hell week, but I haven't heard from her yet to see how it went. She's very small, but very determined.

Welcome Binky's mom - and congratulations on your daughter. I have two sailors - my son is a Lt, public affairs officer in San Diego. My daughter is a Lt JG, stationed in Honolulu, about to deploy. I know you said you are an RN - where do you work? It is hard in the bigger groups, isn't it? I'm also a member of the Moms of Daughters groups, and sometimes it takes forever to follow what's been going on since I was last here. Tell us about your daughter too!

Hello, I'm a registered nurse and have a daughter in boot camp right now PIR 9/25/09. I like the size of this group, I get lost in the big ones, besides, it takes so long to read and get caught up that I don't have time to comment. Glad I found this group.

Good morning and thanks NurseNavyMom, and Kathleen. Sallyforth, if you're still lurking, I was fortunate enough to be in San Diego when the Ronald Reagan deployed, and watched her go out. It was very impressive. One of the things I really want to do in this world is watch one of my kids' ships return from deployment. Last year I went to Hawaii for the express purpose of seeing our daughter's ship return, and it was delayed by damage - I had to return home before she came into port - very disappointing, to put it mildly.

NurseNavyMom, I have been fortunate - my job is booming. I work for a catholic hospital, and part of our mission is to provide health care for all. That being said, our reimbursement rate is terrible. Most of our patients are state assistance or self pay. I live in a very small, very rural area, which is economically depressed in the best of times. The hospital is the biggest employer in the county, and most jobs are unskilled/low wages (factory, retail, or agricultural). We are busier than ever, particularly because it is very difficult to attract physicians to rural areas these days. HOwever, for a community of 8000, we have a dialysis center, a brand new radiation oncology center, and world class cardiologists and oncologists available through the University of Wisconsin and Aspirus Clinics. My work is very much cookie cutter medicine - which is just fine with me. Colds, sore throats, sprained ankles, sutures - the bread and butter stuff. I'm too old to need lots of excitement or a huge paycheck - just let me do my thing and help people. I have a 5 minute commute to work, and have deer in my backyard - suits me. I do miss the big city every once in awhile, but not enough to move back. That's all for now - later

Hi all - I know this is a small group, but have been looking for one for health care folks. I am a physician assistant, running an urgent care in rural Wisconsin attached to a small ED. Have been on N4M for a couple of months. Two officers - son age 26 in San Diego, public affairs, daughter 24, Pearl Harbor, on a destroyer.
