Navy For Moms

Hi, my son is a NCS Reservist who completed his 15 months of active duty and is half way through his two years of active reserves. Horrible contract and one that was not clearly explained to my son. Of course, when he signed it none of the Sailors who had already signed this contract had completed their 15 months and therefore it was not know how difficult and basically impossible it was to remain active. Even though the contract stated they had the 'option' to stay active. I would love to meet anyone whose Sailor also is NCS.

Well there has been some developments for my son who is in his SELRES duty, a little over half way through. He just received orders activating him and will be deployed to the middle east this fall for six months or so. Not sure how this will impact his ability to re-enlist to active duty which falls in that time or if he can extend, which says he can on his orders. Again, needs of the Navy and the reserves plays a big role in what Sailors can do.

My kiddo is a NCS Sailor. And he asked a LOT of questions! Unfortunately, he hit a lot of brick walls of "I don't know". No one told him the required 10 months, so yeah...when he put in the request to extend his active duty, it was denied. Of course, most are denied. The contract was developed in order to increase the number of Reserves. My son received C School, but I think that depends on the need of the Navy. He also got to serve in Japan for 3 months. He loved it. He, too was told he wouldn't be able to serve overseas and obviously that's wrong. There has been a LOT of confusion regarding this contract. Good Luck to you, Sailor!

My extension got denied also, I think that the ones that get approved are the ratings that can also be Full Time Support, because those are the most needed ratings in the Navy at most times.

Like mentioned the most important thing our Sailors need to do is ask, ask, ask, ask whoever, wherever until you get answers. My son is terrible about doing that, well you do what you can. With regard to trying to stay active, if you get denied the first time keep applying as I know at least one Sailor who eventually got to stay active. Best of luck.
