My son CJ has also been told to expect to be deployed....and like yours was told that it may happen quickly. He is also MA and currently, FINALLY yesterday started A school. He is also taking extra course in Anti terrorism so that bumps him up even more in the "deployable attractiveness" list. His dad did three years back to back in Iraq...so I know what to expect, but still he is my baby boy without the lifetime of experience that his dad had. Scary scary times were living in.

Shannon, Am so glad you all had a good time picking up your hubby. Life with kids make it all very interesting, doesn't it? LOL Do enjoy having him home tho!

Ok, I need some help from you all ASAP if possible.

My son can't go active right now so he is coming home the end of January from "A" school where he was for being a Seabee.
He wants to apply RIGHT NOW for a police officer position that is open.

Do any of you Reserves people know how you are to list being in the Navy on a resume???

I am trying to help him with the resume and application and we want to do it right. Reason why I am helping him is because he is so busy with classes and everything they have to do in "A" school that he can't devote all his time to doing it. But the police station he spoke with told him to get his application and resume in ASAP so.........................

Please help me! I have googled it but can't find good examples!

Carol, my prayers are with you and your son, and will continue to be until the day he comes home... Please keep us all updated.... my husband, Dustin, is also a Master at Arms, and I have often wondered what that means as far as deployments... Although your son signed up (volunteered???) Dustin has been told by several commands to expect to be deployed, and to expect it to happen quickly... they (MA's) are needed in Iraq... he is expecting to get IA'ed with the Marines.... I'm hoping that doesnt happen, that if he goes he's with the Navy... does anyone know much about that??

And, Angie, so glad to hear you are keeping the love alive!!! Candles, yes!!!...
My date night didn't go QUITE as planned!!! On the airport to pick Dustin up, our 10 yr old son announced that he wanted to buy daddy dinner (he's a saver...my son, gabe, usually has more money than me!! lol) so, we took Dustin out to Texas Roadhouse (courtesy of our son, Gabe)...
THIS IS GREAT... halfway thru our meal, our waitress approached us and said " I just want you to know that a customer in the restuarant is picking up the bill for your entire meal and wants to thank you for your service... but he wants to remain anonymous" I immediately choke up and w/ tears rolling down my face (so embarrassing LOL) said "omg, please tell them thank you so much!! Dustin got a little teary from seeing me cry and Gabe just looked over at me and whispered, so that only I could hear, "YESSSS! I guess that means i can save my money!!!" HAHA... It was tooo cute, but sooo amazing! Our waitress started crying a little too, and said "My brother actually leaves for his second tour in Iraq tomorrow morning, so it means so much to me to see that people really support the servicemen" All in all, this angel who bought our dinner touched more than us... and it was just an incredibly meaningful event.... Sigh.... these are the days to cherish.....

Shannon, I lit some candles for dinner tonight and thought of you. Hope your date night in was everything you planned and more! :) ((Hugs))

Carlo, NY, you have my prayers for sure!!!

POW camps, now there's a possible assignment option that had never crossed my mind! Tell me more about voluntary mobilization...

My son is trying a new program while he's home that was recommended to him to stay in shape, moves away from all the weight training and hours at the Gym to more intense reps of simple moves designed to build strength and endurance. Good for when you are stationed in the field far from any gym. Tell your guys to check out www.crossfit.com. He's also running 3-7 miles a day. He was a sprinter in HS, never thought I'd see him do distance! He's training with an eye on going into Spec Opps, possible Seals!

Hi Lynn,
That is what my son may do if he can't go active. Do the mobilization deal. Tho being a Seabee, he probably won't do anything like your son's friend in a POW camp which sounds kind of scary to me.

I know my son will stay active physically when he gets home from "A" school. He loves to lift weights and he will keep up his running, I am sure. So that is interesting that they have the PT tests still while drilling each month for the reserves.

What is is job going to be then? Did he sign up for a specific job and not get it?

Well my son went to drill this weekend. He had his PFA and was so excited that he passed his test. He says that because being home has caused him to lose his daily routine, which is to stay in shape. He was stoked that he passed. He also got word that he will probably be able to get his rate. He is currently undesignated. They also told him his orders for the USS Emory S. Land will be March 30,2009, so you can imagine how excited that made him.

His friend goes to active duty for 18 months as he signed up for voluntary inmobilization. He will be taking care of a POW camp. I'm so nervous for him and when he leaves, I hope that all of you Navy Reserve mom's will help me stay in contact with him, as he also is in the reserves.

Thanks,

Lynn

Hello! I'm glad I found this group! My son CJ had PIR on 10/3 and is currently in Virginia Beach waiting to start his A school as an MAA, he is also taking some anti terrorism training to boot. He too, signed up as a Reserve sailor although his recruiter told him if he changed his mind he could switch when he got to boot. He did change his mind shortly before leaving and of course being able to switch is not what happened. He is so upset, he just wasn't sure at 17 that he wanted to make a commit like active, but as the summer progressed and he saw his school friends sitting around our small town with nothing going on, that and realizing that he now has a group of "brothers" that he is tighter than tight with, he really wants to go active and not come back to small town life. I'm hoping somewhere in the near future he can make active happen. Has anyone been successful?

The candlesticks are out, the wine is chilled and the steaks will soon be marinating... Sat night, when the kids go to bed, I have a wonderful "at home" date night planned... The first of many!!! :)

Shannon!! I am so very pleasantly surprised. =) Didn't realize you were that close to having your Sailor home too. The thought of your kids hugging their Daddy for the first time in almost 5 months just makes me teary! What a sweet homecoming he will have. I'm sure there has been a tug of war at times in his heart.

He has stepped up boldly to serve his country, and take advantage of some opportunities he wouldn't otherwise have. He may be the "old man" amongst his shipmates, but he's still young enough to have some adventures. Yet I understand that pull to be home and give his family a stable life also. Keep those lines of communication open. SO happy for you, and hey, we'll understand if you're not too active on here and your other groups for a bit. Between new job, kids and now a Sailor on leave, you're going to be one busy lady! Take care of yourself and be sure to schedule a nice date night or two with Dustin! ((HUGS)) :D
