Just be comfortable and warm. Make sure you order a video of the ceremony. We videoed it but the one they make professionaly is ALOT BETTER. They also make a group Picture big one $9 and it is great the video is priceless. You can order at the NEX. It is worth more than gold!!!!! Take alot of kleenex. When they open the garage doors(I call them that) you think you have arrived in heaven and the saints go marching in. Priceless. Words can not describe oh what a blessing.

My son graduated 9/18/09. I work black jeans and top. My husband wore kakhi's and knit (golf type) shirt. Jeans are OK. You will see a variety of styles. I would go comfortable and dress very warm and wear good shoes for walking. You may have to stand outside for a short period while they check your ID then you have to walk to stadium. It is very emotional but wonderful. Will make you so proud of your love one. Merry Christmas!

You guys are the greatest. I really mean that. I don't know how I would get it together w/o any of you. We should be somewhere close to GL by thursday mid-morning so if I get a call at least I know I won't be on stuck a mountain. lol
Can I ask one more question?? OK here it is..... what did you guys where to PIR??? Believe it or not my husband is the one who keeps asking about dress code.

Tina, we did not get the call either. He tried to call me, his father, and his sister, and we were all traveling. So that was on Thursday. When we saw him at PIR, he had been up for something like 30 hours. He did not want to go sight seeing in Chicago at all. All he wanted to do was go back to the hotel, take a LONG hot shower by himself, and just relax. So we heard alot of great stories, which I am sure you will too!

Tina I wished someone had warned us ...everyone doesn't get the call,I was a nervious wreck waiting and we never got the call because SJ was in the last group to do Battlestations and we were already on our way to the Airport and actually inflight when she was finally allowed to call and she was so sad she didn't get to call us. Don't worry at all Stas' will make it...no doubt about it!!! Take care and enjoy those 4 precious kids at home, the Navy is taking care of Stas' for you this Christmas. ♥ Sue

Our daughter graduated 7/31 and we got the call at 3:00 p.m. EST 7/29/2009 to let us know she had passed. One thing you will learn with the military LAST MINUTE. You will learn alot of patience as time goes on.

Tina, there is no guarantee your sailor will get to make the "I'm a sailor" call. Our son's ID got lost under a piece of equipment during Battle Stations and he spent the time his fellow sailors were making their calls running back and forth across the base to get a new ID made and never got the chance to call. We didn't know for certain he was graduating until we were checked off and allowed on base for the PIR.

I have a question, When does the I'm a Sailor call come? I know its in the last week after battlestations but if PIR is Friday what day of the week would the call come? As some of you know I have to leave NC on Tuesday a.m. to bring my little ones to my in-laws in PA, then leave PA. Wed. a.m. for the 16 hour drive to IL. My in-laws live in the mountains w/ NO cell service so now I'm worried-- I should tell him to call grandma's house w/ the news. That is really going to stick if after all me and his dad are going through that someone else is going to get the glory of the phone call. My mind is going a million miles a minute!

Hi Tina, so glad that you were able to relax a little bit now and able to sleep. This is a huge adjustment for all of us. We who have already gone through BC empathize with you! One thing I really had to take to heart is "no news is good news"...which I am sure will help once my son is deployed. It does get easier with time. PIR is something you have to find a way to get to-it is amazing. Even after BC when I went to visit my son in A school in Pensacola, when we drove up to where he was standing, I did not even recognize my own child! He was standing so tall and confident and his whole body shape was different. You will be so proud of your sailor when you see him at PIR...and after BC, you will be able to have more communication wih him. Hang in there, and whenever you need help, you only need ask. We are here to help each other!
