OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Getting shoe polish out of dress whites
My sailor just called me and the first concern a few of the new sailors had was how to get shoe polish out of their dress whites that they have been in for almost 24 hours. It appears that laundry is on their list for tomorrow as well.
Anyone have a tried and true way to get shoe polish or other stains out of dress whites without yellowing the fabric?

I do know that they all carry Tide Sticks and my son told me OxyClean was the real deal. I do not know about shoe polish specifically. Good luck to him though!

shoe polish has gum and wax, maybe this? But, don't think they offer at NEX. I have always had good luck with soda water and salt soaked and applied with toothbrush. Do not wash first, it will set the stain.
Follow these steps to remove shoe polish stains from washable fabrics such as Acrylic Fabric, Cotton, Linen and Modacrylic:
- This is what GOOGLE says:
- Sponge the area with a dry-cleaning solvent, spot lifter or cleaning fluid.
- Allow it to dry.
If stain persists:
- Mix a paste of powdered detergent, water, and a few drops of ammonia.
- Place an absorbent pad beneath the area and apply the paste to the stain.
- When no more stain is being removed, flush the area thoroughly with water.
- Launder as soon as possible.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will definitely pass these along to my sailor. I suggested the OxyClean, but had not thought about the Tide Sticks. There is only a small NEX near Nuk school, so the options may be limited.
TessaNator⚓️ you mentioned soda water. Are you meaning baking soda dissolved in water, or carbonated soda water? I am not sure about them getting ahold of that easily, but it is definitely worth looking into. I as well tried some Google searches while on the phone, but wondered if there was something specific for shoe polish.

Just a bottle of soda water. I used it with salt to get red wine outta a white silk blouse once, was a miracle.

TessaNator⚓️ and Pat L. - Thank you for your replies. I will pass these along to my sailor. I will have to look up "Zout", I am not familiar with it. I also found out from another family member that there is something available at Hobby Lobby that has "granny" in the name. They use that for getting lipstick out of dance costumes.
