Wow they are doing great! my Aaron got 3.72 - I don't know how many he missed - not sure how that is all calculated.... Yes takes alot of worry knowing that he is hanging right in there!

ok for those like me who have troubles understanding this grading system here is how my son explained it
pretty much each test has a different weight but the 4.0 scale is used to compare them.
like they can be worth any point value but then you divide how many points you get by
the number possible then multiply that times 4 to get your score on a 4.0 scale. like
(242/260)x4=3.72

like our reactor plant systems test was a little one. only 120 points. but heat transfer yesterday was 260. so you can say that i got a 3.53 on RPS but a 3.72 on Heat transfer but the heat transfer is worth way more

Okay I feel dumb - I just realized the 4.0 scale is literally that... 242/260 would be on a 1.0 scale, so a 4.0 scale is just that times 4. Know what I mean? lol

basically- thanks for the explanation :)

Them are some mad math skillz Casey - when are you classing up for Power School? :)

lol That's why I'm the one with the Microbiology degree, and Ryan is the one with the Physics! Even though I did take Calc II and Physics w/ Calc when I didn't have to... guess it's the simple algebra that gets me...

Hi everyone! You all have been quiet this week! What test is on the schedule for this week? Eric called Sunday and said that he and another sailor won a costume contest in a bar on Halloween - I guess that is how they let off steam and keep sane!

Not sure about the test this week. Aaron called today and said they got an extended lunch break because no one in his section failed the test last week. That was a first for his section so they got an extra hour for lunch!

Hi Gail, I think this weeks test is on Friday - physics again..... been a long week here and its not even half over yet! Part of my job is to help employees understand their benefits. I've been working with 4 employees with cancer - usually we may have 1 person at anytime dealing with a serious illness, so this is unusual - and rough! It seems like all I've been doing since Friday is work on benefit forms and talking to employees and their famly members. makes you realize that each day is a gift and we need to enjoy the little things.

Hey guys! Yeah we have been quiet this week! I was glad to see us back in the top 3 discussions again :)

According to Ryan, the test is on Thursday. Carol's right - Physics. All of your Sailors are in my thoughts/prayers.

I'm pretty excited for Friday - I've invited a lot of our new friends over for cider. My slowcooker's cookbook has this amazing apple cider recipe. I usually don't like cider, but this stuff is delicious!

Hey Casey - post the recipe if it's not too long - I love apple cider! How fun for you to get to know more of the wives and girlfriends there. It has to be lonely with as busy as the guys are with school and studying and everything.

arol - what a tough week you've had. My youngest and i are both diabetic - a constant struggle to keep things under control. There is just no end to the expenses that go with a chronic disease. But everyday i am thankful for the life that I have. My prayers are with your cancer patients!

Speaking of enjoying the little things - only 16 more days until we get to go to SC to spend a week at Hilton Head! Eric will join us whenever he can - it's about 1.5 hrs away. My sister and her husband will join us also - it will be the first Thanksgiving with family in a very long time. I can't wait. Casey - maybe there is some way we could meet while I'm there. That would be sooooo great!

Hey! Well I actually sent the recipe to a friend recently so all I had to do was copy and paste! Here it is:

"Hot Mulled Cider" (makes 16 servings)

0.5 gallon apple cider
0.5 cup packed light brown sugar
1.5 tsp balsamic or cider vinegar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cinnamon stick
6 whole cloves
0.5 cup applejack or bourbon (optional)

Combine all these, except applejack, in 4.5 qt slow cooker. Cover; cook on LOW 5-6 hours. Remove and discard cinnamon stick and cloves. Stir in applejack just before serving, if desired.

Casey's note: I divide everything by 4, and this makes the perfect amount to make one mug for Ryan and one mug for me.

so, 2 cups apple cider
1/8 cup brown sugar
~1/2 tsp balsamic vinegar
1/4 tsp vanilla
1/4 cinnamon stick
3 whole cloves

and we haven't tried it with alcohol yet.

Combine and cook on LOW for 3 hours :)

And then I don't even bother to take out the cloves. The cinnamon stick is easy to remove but I just leave the cloves... kind of gives the mug a little something extra :)

ENJOY!!

Gail - I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with our son... oh my gosh that was hard enough and at least it was over as soon as the placenta was out! Diabetes runs in my family so I have to be pretty careful. Man it was hard to get this Southern girl to give up her sweet tea.

Man I bet Thanksgiving this year is going to be great for your family :) So will you be in HH the whole time for will you visit the base at all?

Casey - thanks for the recipe! It looks so yummy! I had gestational diabetes also - but it came back a year after I had Alex (my youngest). I ended up with type 1 as did Alex - not as common as type to and on insulin for the rest of our lives unless they find a cure!

I will be in GC Friday night the 20th - we will stay overnight and explore Charleston on Saturday before we head to HH. Alex adores his brother - so he is really excited to go! Eric is bringing another sailor for Thanksgiving - I told him he could bring more if he wanted! I love big gatherings!
