Navy For Moms

Thought I would start this discussion group so the Moms (and Dads) of Power School Class graduating on January 22 could get to know each other better.

I am Marybeth, Proud Mom of James (EM3).

My son Zach graduates on 1/22 also. He's an ET in 0906-05. He sounds exhausted when I talk to him, but he's still doing ok. He managed to get to the beach this past weekend, but he did say that power school is just way more time than A school and he doesn't have the time to blow off steam like he did in A school. I didn't send him alot of mail when he was in A school, because we talked fairly frequently, but I've decided that it sure couldn't hurt to make sure I drop several letters/cards into the mail each week.
I think you may be onto something, Marybeth, that they're feeding off of each other's negative feelings. They've really just got to keep their focus on the finish line.

I haven't been checking in lately but decided to tonight. I saw your mention of your son Zach. My grandson Casey is in 0906-5
also. He is an ET, too. He was so faithful about writing during boot camp (it may be required) and stayed in touch during A school
but the contact during Power School has been a lot less. I know he does get away on the occasional weekend and when I do talk
to him he sounds fine....but rushed. I'm not sure about the graduation date and I've been trying to find out......so this may be it. I
live in Oklahoma but his father lives in North Carolina. They went to the end of A School but said there weren't very many people
there. I'm sure they'll make this one, too. Navy Grandmom

This is a great idea. My Sailor is in 906-4 and is an ET also. He sounds up and down when we communicate which is mostly through IM (instant message). Lately he sounds OK but it was a rough start evidently getting back in the swing of things after being on T track for so long. I too have started sending him things through the mail so that he gets something. It would be great fun if we could plan a get together right before their graduation so we could meet sort of like before PIR.

Hi All, my boyfriend graduates 1/22/09 as well. He is an MM in class 0906-10. He recently did really well on his test and got less mandatory hours of studying. He is so proud of himself but he knows that its just added pressure. He knows that if he doesn't do well on the next test, (this Friday) the study hours will go back up as easy as that. No matter what happens I always encourage him, I send him goodies, anything to put a smile on his face. I get to talk to him almost everyday and its the best part of my day. I know he is trying so hard in Power School and that is all I can ask of him=)

Thanks Marybeth for starting this discussion..I was waiting for it =)

Take Care everyone.

YAY!! Nice to meet you all, and glad you joined the thread. For the life of me I couldn't remember his class number this morning. James is in 906-1.

Alan is an EM, also in 906-1. We're from Arkansas, although Alan's dad is a former Navy Nuke who was stationed in Charleston back in the dark ages when submarines still used oars and snorkles.
Alan is hoping to stay in GC for prototype.

Hi Everyone! And thank you Marybeth, for starting this discussion group! My son will be graduating on Jan 22nd as well. He's a MM but I don't know his class number. He said that Power school is more stressful than A school was but he's giving it his all and for that, I'm very proud of him. We hope to vist him next month - can't wait to hug him again! Rosemary

Thanks Marybeth for starting this discussion. My son Cody is an MM in 0906-9. I need this discussion group big time. You all are the greatest as most friends and family just don't get it. We have this common wave of just wanting our Sailors to make it and be happy (or at least keep their sanity LOL) and we all need to vent to others with our loved ones going through this really stressful education. I pray for all of them. Go Navy Nukes!!!

Hi Janice,
My son is also an MM in 0906-9! I miss him a lot but he's doing way better now that he did in the beginning. I pray for him every day.

906-3 for me. His name is Ryne and he seems to be doing well. We just got to have a three day visit with him over Labor day weekend (his birthday was Monday). We stayed on an island about two hours from Goose Creek.

I was born and raised on Long Island, but we live in Michigan, right outside of Detroit. My son was born and raised here. Ginger, we weren't able to get to GC for Labor Day, but Zach did say it was a great weekend, and he spent it at the beach too. We're hoping to get down there for Thanksgiving. My son spent last Thanksgiving in bootcamp, so I'd like to try to make it a little nicer for him this year.
