My story is that my son is deployed on his boat for the holidays. Bill has not been home for Christmas in three years. He did manage to come home during Power School in 2006. The next year he was in NY and now Hawaii. I miss him but am so very happy for those of you that are having Hoiliday visits. I just saw him in October (he was Best Man in his buddies wedding).

Sammie....Sounds like the Academy grad is an angel. Love it. My son is in Ballston Spa (6 month prototype)...we live in Thornton, CO and glad to hear that your sailor finally made it home safely. Merry Christmas.

We are so very grateful to have our daughter home for Christmas! She was to arrive home on Sunday but the weather had other plans. Her flight took off from Charleston Sunday morning bound for DC, but mid-flight they were told that DC had shut down again. So they were diverted and landed in Richmond. After spending a few hours in Richmond they finally took-off again, returning to Charleston. Eventually she got booked on a Delta flight leaving Monday morning. She spent the night in the Charleston airport with a few other Sailors along with an Academy graduate who was also waiting for the same 0600 flight. Bless his heart, the Academy grad ordered pizza for the other Sailors, he paid for it but never ate anything. He opted to remain awake while the other Sailors tried to sleep. We don't know who he is, he never mentioned his name, but whoever he is, wherever he is, we thank him! They boarded Monday morning bound for Atlanta to connect to their respective cities. She landed in Denver at 10am yesterday, finally home.

She had a surprise waiting for her in Atlanta. We've met some fantastic friends here on N4M's. One of these dear friends husband was also traveling yesterday, arriving in Atlanta just a few minutes before she arrived. He was able to greet & surprise her at the gate and escort her to her connecting gate! It all worked out so perfectly. So despite all those delays she was ultimately placed in the right place at the right time for that special surprise.

Merry Christmas everyone!

My sailor son just walked in my bedroom where I am on the computer and he gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek and he said, "Love you, Mom!" He has friends over visiting. Time to pinch myself....GO NAVY!!!!

Hi Mrs. Andy, glad everything went smoothly for your travels!
My son flies home tomorrow morning, and I can't wait to see him!! I was dissappointed at first that he wasn't coming home until Tuesday, but with the bad weather of the past weekend, it's probably just as well that he delayed his departure.
Merry Christmas to all, enjoy your time with your sailors, and for those of you who's kids couldn't come home, they are all in my thoughts this holiday week. I know how blessed I am to have all of my kids home under one roof this year....I know it may be quite some time before that ever happens again.

Mrs. Andy, So glad to hear from you! Glad you had a safe trip and a good time with your sailor. Now you be sure to give Andy my number just in case he has any problems in the Chicago area on his way back to BS. Never hurts to have a back-up plan!!! Our sailor got home Friday night so the whole family will be together for Christmas. Merry, Merry Christmas to you and best wishes for a wonderful New Year. Pat

Hello Everyone!

Haven't been on here since Dec 7th -- just wanted to share my experiences since then. We left Minnesota on Dec 8th during that bad blizzard in the Midwest and headed to GC. Our son graduated Power School and was moving to BS on Dec 10th. We got into GC LATE on Dec 9th and left with him on Dec 10th for BS. Got to BS and stayed in the Saratoga Springs area for 4 days while we helped him find a place to live and get settled. We left on Dec 16th and drove back to Minnesota in much better driving conditions. In all we traveled 3800 miles!!! What a trip. Funny thing was that he was not able to come back with us because his leave had not yet been approved -- however, he was able to leave on Dec. 18th and he got in late on Dec 19th. He drove his car home so he was able to miss all the bad weather on the East Coast.

Gini -- Proud Mom -- I understand you live about an 1 1/2 hours from BS. What a beautiful area that is out there.

All of you who have sons/daughters out there -- there is a lot to see and do. I enjoyed walking up and down the main street area of Saratoga Springs looking in all the shops. They have a nice mall there and he ran into a number of guys/girls that were in GC with him. He was lucky to find a room about 4 miles from where they attend their classes--so he is half way between BS and Saratoga Springs.

Pat in IL -- Thanks so much for your offer of a place to stay if we needed one. I thought about you as we drove through the bad weather on the way down but we were so eager to get to SC we just kept plodding along. Unfortunately, due to getting in so late, I was not able to connect with your son. Maybe there will be an opportunity in the future!

Our son is home now for Christmas and will be leaving on Dec 28th to head back to BS. We are in Minneapolis, MN and he will be traveling back through Chicago and then heading through Indiana, Ohio, a bit of Pennsylvania and into New York. If anyone's son/daughter is along that path and needs a ride back to BS -- let me know -- maybe we can work something out.

Minnesota/Iowa is bracing for another blizzard to hit here Wednesday nite through Saturday. We are supposed to be travelling to Iowa to the grandparents house -- WE'LL SEE ABOUT THAT!!!

I wish all of you a very merry and blessed holiday season and a happy and safe New Year. A very special prayer that all of our sailors have safe travels both home and returning to their respective bases. And an extra special prayer to all of those sailors that are apart from their families.

I'm learning to enjoy every second I can spend with my son as this year he's in Ballston Spa with no Christmas break to come home. Miss him but know he is living his life!
