Although it can be very frustrating to wait around to leave for BC, it can also be a very useful time. Your son should use his time in DEP to learn everything he can about the Navy.To learn what he will need to get through basic and most important of all take some extra courses to make his time in Nuke school that much easier.

My son had to wait 6 months to get to leave last year. He enlisted the first of June and wanted to go right away. He was able to leave Dec. 16th.

It can be very hard to leave early. The Navy is backed up do to the fact that many more sailors are choosing to stay in the Navy. He might be able to go early if there is a sudden unexpected opening. But I think he will probably be in DEP for a while.

Bill's Mom, all of us who have sons that are not deployed know that if they are home for the holidays this year that it may the last time for a long time. My heart goes out to you during this time of separation. My son is home this year, but I know that it may be the last for a long time. God bless you and all parents that are without their children this holiday season.

My story is that my son is deployed on his boat for the holidays. Bill has not been home for Christmas in three years. He did manage to come home during Power School in 2006. The next year he was in NY and now Hawaii. I miss him but am so very happy for those of you that are having Hoiliday visits. I just saw him in October (he was Best Man in his buddies wedding).

Sammie....Sounds like the Academy grad is an angel. Love it. My son is in Ballston Spa (6 month prototype)...we live in Thornton, CO and glad to hear that your sailor finally made it home safely. Merry Christmas.

We are so very grateful to have our daughter home for Christmas! She was to arrive home on Sunday but the weather had other plans. Her flight took off from Charleston Sunday morning bound for DC, but mid-flight they were told that DC had shut down again. So they were diverted and landed in Richmond. After spending a few hours in Richmond they finally took-off again, returning to Charleston. Eventually she got booked on a Delta flight leaving Monday morning. She spent the night in the Charleston airport with a few other Sailors along with an Academy graduate who was also waiting for the same 0600 flight. Bless his heart, the Academy grad ordered pizza for the other Sailors, he paid for it but never ate anything. He opted to remain awake while the other Sailors tried to sleep. We don't know who he is, he never mentioned his name, but whoever he is, wherever he is, we thank him! They boarded Monday morning bound for Atlanta to connect to their respective cities. She landed in Denver at 10am yesterday, finally home.

She had a surprise waiting for her in Atlanta. We've met some fantastic friends here on N4M's. One of these dear friends husband was also traveling yesterday, arriving in Atlanta just a few minutes before she arrived. He was able to greet & surprise her at the gate and escort her to her connecting gate! It all worked out so perfectly. So despite all those delays she was ultimately placed in the right place at the right time for that special surprise.

Merry Christmas everyone!

My sailor son just walked in my bedroom where I am on the computer and he gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek and he said, "Love you, Mom!" He has friends over visiting. Time to pinch myself....GO NAVY!!!!
