Rebecca. I asked Andrew and he said 80% of his class made it through A school to prototype.
Thanks Shirley! You are also Awesome! How did you son do in the private sector? Andrew plans to stay in but you never now. Things change.

Like Gini, I live very close to Ballston Spa and can be there for your sailors if need be. My son was a nuke and went to Ballston Spa also. He is no longer in the Navy after ...get this...91/2 yrs.....but my daughter is stationed in Maryland and I know she is being watched by some N4M's there and would like to pay it forward as the saying goes!

Hi Gini! You are absolutely awesome. Andrew is at Ballston Spa right now. He is there until early October. He absolutely loves the area and is living in Sarasota Springs. I will ask him if he needs some TLC. We will be visiting him the beginning of October and spending about ten days seeing the countryside. I hope the leaves are pretty then. Even if they are not we will love seeing Andrew. He has a four day weekend before he graduates from Prototype school. But, with the Navy you never can be 100% certain! He is coming home for a four day weekend at the end of August, so that is wonderful. I hope you get to go to GC to see him graduate. It is wonderful!

Hi All! I'm totally changing the subject and I don't mean to, except that I want to put this out there. I live less than 2 hours from Ballston Spa and I'd like to offer to "be there" for the sailors who may need some TLC...or something from a MOM. My son is currently in GC and I miss him like crazy, but I know that there may be some sailors in Ballston Spa that may need something that I could provide. I know that the prototype school never closes and therefore kids can't always get home when they would like. I don't know what I can provide, but just give a shout out and I will do what I can, maybe a home cooked meal or a place for a retreat...something. God bless our young heroes!

I think the recruiter is probably right.

Let me readdress my question. Sorry! I wanted to know if anyone knew the passing percentage rate of enlisted men currently in the nuke program, not the score you needed on the ASVAB. Just purely out of curiosity...my brother is a retired master chief, and he said only 50% of the guys make it through nuke school, whereas the recruiter told my son 90-95% make it.

Bea, midwestisn't so bad. we do have sushi! not familiar with that brand of beer though. My kids might be :) We've all had our fair share of tears and pity party's so certainly don't feel you are alne!
Cameowlot, dates definitely can change. That is one thing you will learn. Nothing is for sure. Someone commented about Navy time and I have found that oh so true. I can say my Navy son has become very flexible in the last 9 months since becoming a sailor!

Boot camp mom's and this site has gotten me through many a hard day. And was my lifelinefor the first months he was in BC and then at GC. Don't think I would have survived emotionally without all of the MOM friends!

Lorraine - don't buy a ticket just yet. My son graduated from A school on the 31st of July and won't get to come home until the 4th of September. Have him talk to his Petty Officer to conform the dates, as they may put them on t-track until the next Power School starts. Good luck!

Thanks! I called this morning to ask about the dates he MAY have to go back down as we have a memorial service to attend next week and did not want dates to conflict. So far, they have not heard anything about the tests yet today. I am very thankful for this site. I stumbled upon it by accident looking for info on the Navy when my son told me he was going to enlist. What a blessing. I could not imagine going it alone!

My son told me that he will be graduating from A School on October 9th and will be able to come home from Oct 9th after graduation to Oct 19th. Does anyone know if these dates can change? I wanted to surprise him and get him plane tickets so he can fly instead of drive home. Thank you!
