Kathryn,Thank you for the info on mailing.I will be careful around the holidays about the timing of sending things his way.I wonder if the sailors go to the MWR on base to make airplane reservations to come home during Christmas and also do they get a military discount if they make plane reservations?Cathy

Cathy (catnayl), my son is currently at prototype in GC, so he's been through A school and power school. Since he's already in GC, I would go ahead and ship. The only time we had issues with timely delivery was during December when the mail room basically shut down from Dec 12 to Jan 2...and then again right before he was due to graduate from power school. Good day - my sailor that is in prototype in GC (to grad in Dec) drove home for his 4 day break!! Yeah. So good to see him. He and his dad are out in the shop working on his car - nothing major - just general upkeep, just like old times. His brother is home from college for the weekend, which is usual, but to have both of them home is so, so comforting. I am a happy camper. He is doing well in prototype, has taken and passed his written comp and looking forward to finishing up. Hopefully, will be home for Christmas but not sure. Just enjoying every minute. Hope you all have a good weekend.

Change after change - I guess that's what being in the military means. Garry just let me know that he will be staying in SC, and he is glad - he wasn't looking forward to NY in the winter - - TN's weather is not that cold, even when we think it is! :)
Kate - I hate you had so much trouble when you went to A-School grad, ours went so smoothly. We got there the day before and rested and Garry actually drove us around and showed us where to go (not the entire way, but close) as far as parking and then when we got there that morning and a sailor was parking as we were and volunteered to show us where to go and was so polite and helpful. When we got there - our names were on there and we went right in. I think Power School is outside and is MUCH larger - hoping things go as easily this time. I agree the A-School grad was very intimate and great! Love it! But then anything my kids are involved in is usually that way in my heart!

Just got the official word today. Quincy is going to BS. He is excited so I am trying to be happy, but now he'll be a good 12 hours away :(

I'd love to!!! -- but if I wait and go on 11/25 -- I won't be back until December 7th -- so I really can't afford to take any more time.

The good thing is that his dad and his paternal grandmother will be there for the ceremony.
Marybeth Comment by Marybeth on October 30, 2009 at 4:55pm
Well Mrs. Andy - IF you can spare the time (and of course the extra expense), why not go to graduation anyway?? While he's on watch you can spend a few days doing some sightseeing in Charleston (or resting up for your long journey)... that's my two cents.

Those of you that have sailors going to NY for Prototype and have chosen to live in the "base" housing, tell them to fill out and turn in the survey questionaire Balfour Beatty leaves in the apartment. My son just called to say he and his roommate just won $500 and a chicken dinner from a fine local restaurant for filling out and turning their survey in!
Mrs. Andy Comment by Mrs. Andy on October 30, 2009 at 4:40pm
Just heard from Andy -- he originally was told that he would be a Grad-n-Go after Power School in Nov. So we were going to go for graduation and then help him move to BS. Now they are all being told that they won't get to leave for BS until 11/30 -- that he has 3 12-hour watches the weekend of graduation and then he will have 4 days off the next weekend (which is Thanksgiving). He doesn't want me to come for graduation -- he wants me to wait and come the next week and help him move -- what conflicting emotions I have right now!!!!!!! But, if that is what he wants -- that is what I will do.
