welcome, i should get you in touch with my son's new wife, they ar in GC. I am going to guess not much thankgiving time, but you should get him at christmas if that helps! Last year was my sons first year there and he made it all the way to Washington for christmas. i don't think he will this year because he will graduate the end of Jan. So welcome and God's blessings to you for being a sailors wife.

Hi Everyone! I'm new to this website! Thankfully just found it! My Husband Neil is graduating this Friday, 11/13! Then he will be leaving for GC 11/18. He said something in one of his letters about Thanksgiving, but wasn't specific. He only asked if I was going to be able to come up, because he could only travel 75 miles. He didn't say how long his break would be, or anything... so just wondering about that!

Hi everyone, welcome to the new Nuke moms. Michele, I met my son at O'hare at 5am to give him his cell phone, computer, etc...and bought him and his friends Starbucks (you would think I bought them gold!!) My plane actually took off before theirs, but, everyone treated them like rock stars...all dressed in their dress whites & all. It was really amazing to behold. Also, we went to the mall with him after PIR and took him to Rainforest Cafe...again, thought it was gold! People were stopping the various Sailors, shaking their hands, thanking them for their service...really fun and touching.
Have a great day all.

MySharrona - I think there will be quite a lot of sailors there over Thanksgiving. Mine will be. We celebrated TG while he was home in Oct. There should be opportunities for them, as you said, there on the base or with area families. I'll have to ask Steve if he knows what he'll be doing yet.

Yes, my husband and I were pleasantly surprised when we took our son back to the airport (O'Hare) after his leave (after A school graduation) and they asked us if we would like to go to the gate with him! We didn't know they allowed that for military personnel (he was in uniform).

Michelle, In addition to giving him his cell phone, you can get a special security pass and go to the gate with him. You get to spend more time with him.

My son got to SC on the 4th and doesn't start school until the 16th. He is getting acquainted with the campus, getting to know people and hanging out with people from his PIR 10/30 shipmates he calls them. So far he really likes it there and looks forward to starting school. We just shipped him all of his electronics per his request. Computers/printers are far and few between I guess.

Hi Ladies, I am new here, my son will PIR this Friday, 11/13/09. Then he will be heading to S. Carolina on Saturday. My question is.... Can I give him his cell phone at the airport when he is leaving GL or will he NOT be allowed to have it when he gets to A School? PLEASE HELP!!

Thanks,

Michelle
