Susan, I would think it all depends if there is an opening at Goose Creek. When there is an opening, they send them to Basic 8-9 weeks prior to that. That is the way it worked for my son.

My son is scheduled to leave for BC in 3/10. His job cut his hours in half and his recruiter asked if he wanted to leave early. What are the chances of him leaving for BC early if he's signed up for the Nuke program?

http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjob1/a/nuclear.htm has some information on the different rates (jobs) and then read through the posting above on your schedule upon arrival at G.C. has more info that I still refer to :)

Hi there..this will sound silly, but what is ET and EM? I haven't heard these terms until now. I am excited to learn more about all this:)

Thanks Carol. It does help answer some of the questions.

HI Sammie, take a look at the discussion above on your Sailors schedule upon arrival to GC - Casey has scanned in a document that might help you understand the differences, scroll to the 2nd page of that document and take a look.
the biggest factor to determining the rate is the needs of the Navy. My son got a top score during the testing at BC and was told he would get his first choice, he did not get what he requested but is happy where he is at now.

Hi Nuke Moms! Our daughter is currently in GL and scheduled to PIR on 12/4. She'll then be on her way to GC on 12/5. Her original contract was for Nuke ET, but after classifications at GL she is now rated as a nuke EM. So my question is this...What is the determining factor for why she has been rated as EM instead of ET? And secondly, what is the difference between ET & EM? She was really hoping for ET (though she knew this could change at BC), so my concern is that she may be unhappy with her new rate. This girl is ALL about mathematics/numbers, it all comes so naturally & easily to her. Will her natural talents still be used in the EM rating? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just a mom looking out for her girls best interests.

When my son Chris was in Nuclear power school, we adopted a bunch of his sailor friends for Thanksgiving, Christmas and basically every other weeekend. It was a lot of fun on our part, and it was a lot of fun on their part also.
When we went to my son Chris's wedding up in Saratoga Springs, New York, all of his buddies were part of that wedding. It was like a family reunion of the all of our adopted sons.

Congrats to all the sailors & of course the families (especially moms) who grad from power school Nov.20! We have an amazing group of kids who have endured & excelled in a very tough program! I can't wait to see my son. Hope the weather will be nice so they can grad outside!
