OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I know it seems so unfair, but I guess the Navy has their reasons for doing the things they do. A friend daughter was losing weight during boot camp, because she didn't eat much when under stress. She was there for 7 1/2 weeks wen they sent her home for losing too much weight. It was very upsetting for her, but she was told that she needed professional help and once she resolved her eating issues she could have another chance in 2 years. It was awful to be so close and then have it all taken away. I agree with suebal have her tested by a specialist. :( sorry

Comment by susank on June 1, 2012 at 9:15pm: Delbert, my son had a friend that had to end his Navy Career because of Asthma after he went through OCS, Power School, and Prototype. Actually it was at the end of prototype before he made it to the fleet. They take asthma very seriously. So sorry!!

I have a very good friend whose son went to the same thing in his seventh week of boot, except that in his circumstance it was the dead of winter, everybody around him had colds and he was on the down side of the cold. He waited for five weeks to be shipped home then we took him to a specialist and found out that he has a very very very mild case of asthma. Asthma is one of those things that the Navy will not take any chances with. I mean Hells bells, if they make sailors have all of their wisdom teeth removed at boot with the justification being "if they're out in the middle of the ocean and one or more of the wisdom teeth become impacted can't do anything about it," they're surely not going to take any chances, no matter how mild, with asthma. You could have her come home and take her to a specialist and have her tested. My friends son was told that after two years he could try to reenlist. Again, it really sucks to have gotten this far and then be told you can't graduate.

Comment by Delbert59 Ship 02 Div 931 on June 1, 2012 at 8:33pm: I have a question for you moms; Does anyone know of a Nuke that was able to appeal a diagnosis of asthma and continue on to Nuke school? My SR is a Great Lakes in her 7th week of boot camp. She had some kind of coughing episode after PT in 92 degrees heat and was sent off to be tested for asthma. Turns out the GL docs diagnosed her with exercise induced asthma. I want to encourage her to appeal, but not if it is a hopeless case. anyone have any experience with this?

Remember that much of what these guys do is highly sensitive and they have to have clearance before they even start school. When my sailor first began this journey, their was no Navy for Moms...I did a lot of research to find out all I could about what my son was going to be doing. There was a page on the internet that you could do a little reading about the school in Goose Creek. The next time I went to the page to see if anything had been updated, it was gone. It appeared again before he finished up prototype, but when I searched for the link above, I could not find it again.

I got a call from him today telling me that he was going to be able to drive his car (it arrived yesterday) in 40 minutes. He was so excited. He and a few friends were all going to Walmart. My how times have changed.
