And AJM, although the Nuke program in the navy isn't for him, maybe a nursing career in some military form could be in his future.  There are many soldiers and vets who need a caring and compassionate nurse and it sounds like your son is a prime example.  Good luck to him and praise for your upbeat attitude for him!

AJMMom...I, too, offer my prayers. He's going to have an awesome life! Just watch!

AJM MOM, I loved your post. Where one door closes, a window opens somewhere. Sounds like he has a great family and will be just fine. Your positive attitude will make all the difference.  It's been said here before, being a Nuke isn't for everyone and if it doesn't work out, it wasn't meant to be and there is something better for them.  Good luck to you and your son and God bless.

Sorry to hear about your son, but sounds like he will continue on to another great path. Good luck to you both!!

He was in A-School for MM, he was 3 weeks away from graduation, but did not keep his grades up where they needed to be, so he was de-nuked.  He was not offered re-rating due to Navy downsizing or maybe he turned down the re-rate, I really don't know for sure.  He had taken his car to GC at Christmas break, which was good considering.  The Dallas area sailor did not have a car, so my son offered to drive him home.  It is a little out of the way, but I am sure my son was enjoying the company.  It is 17 plus hours to Dallas then another 6 to home here in the TX panhandle.  He will be tired and ready for his bed, I am sure.    Our son knows God has plans for him and that the although his Navy career ended sooner than he would have liked, he has great options awaiting for him.  He is 1/2 way finished with his RN degree and has his CNA already, so he will return to college to finish that up.  He seems excited, but we know it is going to be hard in the beginning.  We will be here to surround him with tons of love and support.  He is a great kiddo...with a bright future!  We are so proud of him, Navy or not.

Anyone have a sailor son heading home to the Dallas area?  We live in the Texas Panhandle and my son has a fellow sailor traveling with him that lives in Dallas...just thought maybe the Dallas area sailors mom is on N4M too?  Message me if it might be you!

Rachael, 2.5 is still alive. Highest score possible on any test is 4.0. :)
Comment by TN Navy Mom (Stennis Nuke Mom) on February 21, 2012 at 6:36pm

Rachael, the important number is "2.5 - stay alive" as in a 2.5 GPA.  Mine has had scores that ranged from 2.51 (yep, sweating bullets) to 3.7.  Used to make me crazy, so I quit asking for scores, sometimes he'd offer up the score, sometimes it was not discussed.
