Good evening, ladies,
My son just started A school. He is in Division 906A. I'd like to get to know the other moms of sailors in this division since we will all be going through this together. I figured that we could share information, dates, and stories. Any takers?

My son just got to GL yesterday (10/28), so he won't get to nuke school until January. I'm just starting this process, and it feels like it will be forever before I get to see him again. I'm very excited for him, but also very nervous, scared, sad at his being away. I do however, think that this is one of the best decisions he's ever made. He is so excited about nuke school, and his future...it's wonderful to see.
Thanks to ALL of you. I am learning so much (and getting so much emotional support) from this site!

Cheryl,
4-5 weeks at home!! Aren't you lucky! My son just started A school and I'm looking forward to seeing him over Christmas. It was so hard for all of us to see him those few days after boot camp and then say goodbye again. At least he now has his phone and computer and we can keep in touch more often. (I think he does it to keep the care packages coming! LOL)

thanks Annette. My son and some of his buddies left GC for NY to do Power and Protype thats why I was confused. They rented a house not far from base. He didnt tell me a lot thru those stressful months and I knew not to press!! He will be home 11/14 for 4-5 weeks and we cant wait to hold him hostage!!
A big thanks to our sailors!! Have a great evening!

Hi Joy! My son lived in a nice apartment on Greenwood Road. I'll ask him the name. He got a one-bedroom with no room mate because he likes to go to bed early and it's hard to find a teenage roomie the same.

I put a long post with some ideas on furnishing an apartment for only six months; if you'll look on the discussion group "Wedding Shower Plans..." My post is dated Oct. 23.

They on base for A school and then move to a different dorm for Power school. Proto type school (phase 3) is when they move off base. This is what my son told me.

Dont the kids live at the complex while in school at GC?? My son stayed on site while he was there in a dorm room and now lives off base in NY finishing up school?? They rented a house (5 of them, can you imagine!!) in Ballston Spa, NY.

Cassandra S. Its been many years since I was a Navy wife, but I remember Nuke school very well. I also talked to some wives when my son was in Goose Creek. So here are my suggestions. First, keep plenty of snacks in the house (you will get housing). When the guys come up for air they are usually hungry. Don't plan meals. I know you want him the eat well, but they never make it for a planned meal. I always made things that could be re-heated or kept on the stove. I liked stews, soups or sandwiches. Also, encourage him to invite his fellow sailors over on the weekends. That gives him and his friends a chance to de-stress with people who understand. Finally, for your sanity, I would suggest you look for a part time job. It gets you out of the house and gives you a chance to talk to people who are not under stress. I use to use the extra money to buy my husband little gifts or extras. Good luck down in Groose Creek and if you ever need anything, please contact this old Navy wife.
