Anna and Cynthia, I haven't heard of anyone going to Bahrain lately. I visited there when my brother was stationed there. It's not that bad there. I loved it and would love to visit again. It's different but very western. I was there for the fourth of July and had a wonderful time on base for all the celebrations. It's a very small base but I found that most people in town were very nice. I hope they enjoy their stay. If you get a chance to visit you should go for it.

Lori, I have a son that left for boot camp 2 wks. ago. I have an older son that has been in the Navy for 5yrs. This time I didn't remember anything about the communication bit and it's like I'm going through it for the first time. Hang in there. As soon as you start getting the first letter from your son, things will get a lot easier!!!! What part of Ohio are you from? Keep in touch......Dawn

Colleen,
thank you so much for taking the time to update me, as being new and not knowing anyone in the navy makes it nice to have this site. Lori

Hi Lori,
My 23 year old son just finished boot camp last month. Hopefully you will get a very brief phone call tonight just letting you know he has arrived. If he takes his cell phone he will use it to make the call, then his phone will be sent home with his other personal belongings. You will get a form letter in about a week with his address and maybe a short personal note from him at the very end. But you don't have to wait for that to start sending mail--call his recruiter Friday and you should be able to get his address. The important part is Ship and Division numbers. I recommend you join the Boot Camp Moms group, usually on the first page of groups. There you will learn all the details you're craving. Just remember, not all recruits or all moms have the same experiences. Welcome to the Navy!

There was no easy way for me to deal with not talking to my daughter. I made sure my phone was always with me on the off chance she called. Once at work I refused to wait on a customer because she called. I kept a journal I wrote in every day . One day I may give it too. At some ponts when she called she was a pain. She will read about it and laugh. Now she is in Hawaii. Even harder because its 4 years. So I make movies for her.

I am a new navy mom, my son leaves today for boot camp, he is 23 and this is going to be wonderful for him and us as a family as he was wondering. Who can give us advice how to deal with not having any contact with him for so long. What can we expect, I already have letters written to start sedning, how long does it tak efor him to make the contact with his address so we can start sending letters of encouragement t ohim. Thanks for all advice, we miss him already.

Hi Sandyfeasby, I have a son who left for Bahrain 3 weeks ago. He was home for about 2 weeks before he left. How long has your son been there?

Hi, MsV... Sure, nukes are welcome here! I married one.

Dawn, we've only been here 6, almost 7, years. I grew up in Kent then married a Sailor from Rootstown. We've lived lots of places--Windsor Locks, CT; N. Charleston, SC; Port Clinton, OH; Rock Port, MO (Cooper Station, NE); and now back to NE Ohio. We love living in wine country! He was/is a nuke and we finally settled back in Ohio closer to family.

Are you sure the graduation will be outside? I thought they were all in the drill hall now. We were only allowed to take photographs inside the hall. We were so lucky that our son graduated on a holiday weekend. He had liberty for 5 days!

I'll send you a private message with my phone number. We need to get together!

Colleen
