that's tough heather, our cat was like that too. she really didn't eat either and lost a lot of weight and her coat was not good. they do get dehydrated even though they do drink. i'm sorry to hear the prognosis, that is probably what you'll have to do, you just have to come to terms with when to do it. I'm sorry that seems like the only choice right now, i know how you feel!!

Kelly~He drinks and drinks now. They said thats from his kidneys not working fully. He is drinking but its just going straight through him, his kidneys are not absorbing anything. I am afraid that part of his weight loss is due to this. I am considering have him put to sleep. I dont wanna make him wait til he is so bad that he cant move before I do anything. I dont want him to go through more pain that is inevitable sooner or later ya know. I just am not real sure what to do yet, I have not told my hubby yet. I have to wait til he calls me tonight after school. Jasper was my gift to him after we got together because he loves pugs.

I'm so sorry heather. it really has to be your call, sounds like they need to keep him on iv or do they think you just making sure he drinks?? sometimes older pets don't do well dispite meds so you can just do what you can and see how he does or make the other choice. my houdini cat had that, poor little thing, lost lots of weight, she was 14 when we lost her.

Well...Jasper has kidney failure. Now I am not sure what to do. Vet said he needs to get fluids and antibiotics, ($200+) That will either prolong him for awhile or we could be back in a few months time, or it could not change anything. Its at the acute stage right now so its not chronic yet. He said no way to tell how long it will take, could be a few weeks or a few months. I have already spent over $200 in last 2 days. Its so expensive and I just dont have the extra 200 to fork out again. I feel horrible. Any advice on what to do?? He is almost 9 now.

heather, i sure hope you get good news today!!
we had a cat with kidney failure, she was old, and really didn't know why it happened but it does happen. hope they can give you good news and make jasper feel better!

Just got call from Vet from blood work yesterday. He thinks he may have kidney failure. The only other option would be sever dehydration, but he said his gums are nice, pink, and moist, plus Jasper drinks all the time. He is plenty hydrated. So its back to the Vet I go today...Gonna try to get urine sample and do some more testing...This will be day 2 of no food at all for him. That worries me. Before that he took a few bites here and there, and now he wont eat anything. I will keep u posted when I find out more.

Well just got back from Vet. He dont think its arthritis because Jasper dont budge when he pokes and pulls on his legs and hips. He does have an intestinal infection. He said there are many things to cause that. He is doing extensive blood work that will check all his organ functions. He said that maybe its not his hips thats bothering, maybe he is just really weak and his legs are giving out. So he wants to make sure everything internally is working. So we wont know more til tomorrow or Wed!

Sorry about your pug, Heather. Hope he's doing better today. I have a favorite cat, who is 12 years old and that bothers me. She's the best I've ever had. Cloning, maybe?!?
Just saw something funny on the news. A bear in WI broke into a supermarket and headed straight to the liquor department. S/he was drunk by the time the police arrived. They set the happy bear out in the woods.
