i thought so, we did a big lewis and clark display one year in scouts (i did anyways, lol) read tons of stuff. pretty cool.

Kelly - the presidents who had Newfs as first dogs were Grant, Hayes and Buchanan. I had to look it up coz it bothered me.

Kelly - I think so that it was a newf with Lewis and Clark, also a newf saved Napolean when he fell off his ship when coming back from exile in Elba back to France. Also 3 US presidents had newfs in the White House, only I can't remember which ones..

i'm sure you'd know this.... was it a newf who went with lewis and clark?? tryin to wrack my brain, we have a lot of lewis and clark history here in montana, seems to me that was the breed of dog on the trip.

chaela - you are absolutely right. Chief is a newfie. He was born on 6/4. So he'll be 6mos old on 12/4, We got him also this summer, actually 2wks after we got Perry so we did 2 road trips in the month of August to get animals. LOL Chief's full AKC name is Mystic's Master Chief Petty Officer. Ed my sailor son named him. Gotta give a Newf a nautical name ya know

Pets really do remember people who live there even if they've been away. My cat, Ginger was so funny when my daughter came home from college the first time. She's so expressive, anyway, but she really looked as surprised as a cat can look when she saw my daughter again. Maybe she thought she'd wandered off in the woods and we forgot about her.

Rob~We had this problem with Jasper. He wouldnt go to bathroom at all when he was sick, since his kidneys were not working. He went 2 days without going. Vet said we need urine sample....ha he wasnt peeing so I was like ya good luck. Well after all day of me trying to get him to go, I took him to Vets office cuz they were gonna to a bladder tap (stick needle in bladder and take it) well he walked around outside (best he could) and went pee for me there!!! Vet said it was probably just because of all the other animal scents, its like a natural itch they gotta scratch to go by other animals scents. Maybe you could try that?!

Still no news on what is wrong with my Brandie Girl, we have to get a urine on her to test, which is not easy to do when she will not pee for me LOL. I do not want them to have to do a cysto on her I hope see goes in the morning for me.

Oh and I am sure Peaches will remember her boy when he comes home. All four of my dogs sleep outside Rob's door and If it is open then are all up on his bed waiting for him to come back home.

peaches especially, he was 5 when we got her as a pup. she always slept with him so i'm sure sh'ell be glad to have "her boy" home, just hope she doesn't get depressed again when he leaves. she is very much a people dog, she gets upset when her people leave her.
my other son alex is now sleeping in jake's room, which is his room now. so she can still sleep on the bed but often i wake in the morning and sh'es upstairs, alex said she didn't want to stay there. peaches was and is very attached to jake. i'm sure she will be very excited to see jake.
