me and my mom used to make chocolate houses every year for Christmas. one year our dog Wendy (a sheltie mix) ate a 5lb bag of chocolate that we used for the houses. She had to be taken out every 1/2 hour for 3 days but survived with nothing more than diaharrea.
And for a new years eve party we had made a big bowl of bean dip. Our dobie/shep Jack decided he didn't want us to have it. He ate the whole bowl in less than 5min when I stepped out of the kitchen.
And another time I noticed my cat Oscar walking down the hall with an entire ring of keilbasi in his mouth. It was still in the package, and the ring was bigger than him. So there are some of my funny animal stories

You never know with them getting bad stuff. I have (or my son does) an 8 pounder. A few years ago I saw her fun by with a whole chocolate candy in her mouth. I had bought an 8 pack for s mores and she ate them all. She was a little sick but fine when you think she ate 8 regular sized chocolate bars.

We have two westies (ages 4 1/4 and 3 3/4) and temporarily our grand-dogter a 17 mo old yorkie. On Sun the 6th we added antifreeze to the boat engine and rinsed the spill into the yard. Well, the younger westie got into it and it's impossible to know how much he licked up. We met the vet at the clinic about 4 hrs after it happened and he put him on IV fluids overnight and the next day. He seems fine, but on the 4th day we went back for blood work and his creatinine level had gone up slightly. Not enough to be alarming, or for the vet to say "game over," but up nonetheless, so we are going back after Christmas for another blood test. Pretty sure he'll survive, but may have kidney damage. The other dogs didn't get into it - Willis gets in everything - he eats bugs, you name it. While at the vet overnight, he removed his IV needle, chewed off the line, got out of the kennel and explored the clinic. He was up sitting on an exam table when the staff got there at 6am. He's a character.

oh no cathy!! hope your pup will be okay?? I'm hoping that since it didn't poison right away as it often does(fatal) that maybe some diahrea and stuff then the pup will be okay?? keep us posted.

Anyone with experience with a doggie getting into antifreeze? We're playing the waiting game, more blood work in a couple weeks. I'll post more details later when i have time.

karen,
Sometimes we don't know a pet is not right for us until they live with us. We adopted a dog once and she physically pulled books out of the bookshelf, dragged shoes out of closet, chewed everything. she obviously couldn't be inside and didn't have a safe place to keep her outside. We found a farmer with land and she loved it.

I don't think you are bad if this pet is not for you. there are many people who want a small dog, maybe have more of a dog escape proof yard too. do what you need to do.

We got an email from Ed from the Vinson. He's loving it, says he was watching flight ops off the carrier deck and said something that I don't think would be appropriate to say here LOL LOL. I think they will be back in port on the 18th of this month. He said that he's taking care of the officers quarters and the shirt they gave him to wear is like a VIP pass to walk thru flag country with noone bothering him. And he gets to eat on the officer mess deck and the food is alot better than the enlisted galley. He;s having a BLAST out there.

Hes a 15 pound fu fu dog. Our wind chill has been hitting under 0. I think he would freeze. I have two dogs houses in the back yard but have never seen him go in either one. He doesnt stay in the back yard anyway. Hes out the fence and running up and down the street for hours barking at everything he sees.
