OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Lexi, Your boyfriend will have the opportunity to change the names on the guest list up until a couple days before PIR. He is also the one that has the password, and he is the only one that can give it to you. The password is only needed f you are driving on to base.

If you can't attend PIR, yes you can see him after PIR, and how much time you will be able to see him depends on where he is going to A School.

Comment by Birgitta yesterday

Hey Lexi, I thought I read somewhere that taking an uber or lyft to the base will case problems for your recruit.  you might want to confirm or discredit this before using that form of transportation.  pretty sure it was in the form letter but might have been on one of these groups...

Oh okay awesome! I'll probably be taking an uber to get to him since I'll only be there for the day to see him. So I won't need parking lol

Do you know of a decent or cheap hotel around there?
Comment by Valtameri on Tuesday

Hi Lexi,

He should be able to add your name to the attendance list. He can tell you the password, but you only need it if you will be driving on to base.

Okay, so my boyfriend originally put his mom and dad and brothers names down to invite to graduation but we don't think they'll be going. He really wants me to be there. I wrote him telling him I'd be there if he wanted me there but is he able to change the names of the people he invited this late? And does he have the password or is it only in the formal letter?Since they probably aren't able to make it out there I don't want him to be alone at graduation. Should I just book the flight? And if I'm not able to actually see him graduate I'll be able to see him right after and spend a couple of hours with him right? I want to book the flight to go out there but I don't want to book it if I won't see him. Any help is appreciated

Yep, totally agree with FTLW.  Some of the RDCs (their bosses!) like to "motivate" their SRs by telling them that their division will be setback (asmoed) if they don't get it together.  It does NOT happen.  Individuals will be asmoed, not entire divisions.  A division will graduate on time but always missing some of its members.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on Monday

NavyfamilyFL - ASMO-Assignment Memorandum only applies to individual recruits not whole divisions.  It's what I would call "negative motivation" to prompt them all to do their best as a team. They most likely just did not earn the calls. :-( As Birgitta said, "No news is good news".

This is from the RTC Family Guide:

While  a  division’s  graduation  date will  not  change,  an individual  Recruit’s  graduation  date  may  change  based  on performance.

...And this:

Once  a  division’s  graduation  date  has  been  set  it  will  not change. An  individual  Recruit’s  graduation  is  dependent  on successful  completion  of  the  training  requirements. Should your  Recruit  experience  a  disruption in training  due  to  an academic  or  physical  test  failure,  injury  or  illness,  they  will receive  the  opportunity  to  call  the  person  of  their  choice  to advise  her/him  of  their  situation.

You may access and read the Family Guide here .

No calls this weekend from Div 111?  I had my phone attached to my hip all weekend since I missed his call last weekend.  No news is good news, right? We are flying in to Midway Thursday morning and staying at the Navy Lodge.  I read somewhere that parents are decorating doors at the hotel.  Is this something that actually happens?
