OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option.

~It is also a good idea to change your visibility settings for your Profile Page (MY PAGE) to "Just my friends".

NAVYMOM88:  That is what RTC suggests.  They prefer that extras stay at the hotel and watch the LIVESTREAM of PIR there (many hotels stream it).  Things can go wrong with the Livestream and if in the Chapel, and it goes out, the extras must stay in the Chapel for the duration of PIR anyway.  The extras are ushered into the Chapel by staff and ushered random walking around the base until after PIR and they are ushered out at which time they can meet up with the sailors. There is NO CHANCE of the extras getting into PIR Hall.

There is no food allowed in the Chapel (it is allowed in the PIR Hall) and no one under 18 is allowed in there without an adult with them.  So it is just more relaxing to stay at the hotel and watch it there, meeting up with their new sailor after PIR is over at the hotel.

mebanemom:  There is no schedule for phone calls, other than your SR may write and say he/she will call on a certain date...the call may or may not come.  Most calls from your SRs are random, the most coming in over the weekends....but "business/need info" calls will come during the week.  So it is best to keep your phone glued to you at all times during Bootcamp...even in the bathroom and when stepping outside to get the mail.  Many have missed calls during those times. The calls can come up to about 8 pm Central time.  Answer ALL CALLS during Bootcamp on your phone because although most Bootcamp calls will come from the 847 area code, some may come from others, like if they are on a staff member's cell phone.  So best to answer all calls during this time.

How often they can call is determined by many different factors, the most important one depending on their RDCs (bosses!). My son was in 2 divisions when he was at Bootcamp....because he was delayed a week....the first division's RDCs allowed lots of phone calls but the next division's RDCs did not.

Good morning 300zx and Bandmom.  I got a letter yesterday.   Do either of you know what day of the week the recruits are allowed to call home?
